Frankly I don't like the background on your website, I have quit as soon as I have seen it: it's too slow, sorry :)

i have just tested the speed at which the website loads and its less than 6 seconds for the home page to be displayed fully, something wrong with your connection maybe?
As for the background, some will like it and some wont. I think it stands out from other websites and blogs and thats why i kept it, it also ties into the theme of the website.

true, it stands up from other sites. but I also don't like the background. but since you didn't write the stuff straight on it it is okay...
I have a fast connection and still it takes a while for loading.
