Going back to school

I have recently decided to go back to school but I have a problem. I cannot afford to get my degree online and the closest school that offers the program I need is four hours away from my home. So the question is; should I wait and save money or pick up my family and move? I have been staying at home with my young son and my husband has a career of his own. I really am torn with my decision. I don't know if I should get a part time job and save up to do my classes online or just move to another city to go to school where I can make monthly payments instead of having everything up front. Please someone give me your opinion.

You might want to look into governments grants that pay for your classes. the US department of education offer grants to lower income families to pay for college. The one my husband got was the pell grant. Here is the link to check it out. www.ed.gov/programs/fpg/index.html Good luck!

I want to go to Commonwealth Institute but they want $9000 up front. I already owe student loans from a previous degree. I don't know what to do.

ok, this was the same situation I was in...You can still get grants. I would do another school online. I did this to finish my associates and they set me up with a payment plan, scholorships and grants...

A lot of schools will offer financial aid assistance to students that need help. Taking classes online would be your best bet, especially if you can get some financial assistance. I'd contact the school to see if you are eligible for any aid and then figure out if you should get a part time job. A part time job would certainly help pay for those online classes, they aren't that expensive usually and are better than moving over four hours away with a young son..it would cost a lot more money.

Thanks, I will talk to the school. You also have a valid point about the moving thing. Not only would that be expensive I really don't want to ride in the car with a one year old for four hours.

going back to school is a decision that everyone will support you. so do not keep the decision unto yourself. involve your husband, friends, family and relatives on this. they may have a very good idea on how you will go about your decision to go back to school. i am sure they will all support and enthusiastic about it.
