Can You Earn from Using Search Engines?? Do They Pay??

I have been using a rather new search engine in this month and so far I have earned $56.89 from my own searches and maybe from some referrals, but I have not yet asked for a payout.
I just wonder if there are search engines out there that really pay for just using them and making some searches in your spare time.

My experience with these type of sites was not very pleasant.My first and the last one was slashmysearch.com
According to them they were supposed to pay $0.25 for using their search engine for one hour.I have made over $50 there but when requested payout , I got nothing.They do not even reply my mails.So I decided to leave it .
