I like to read this authors books and this one is exceptional. I read it in two days and was totally intrigued by the story. The story is about Ford Newcombe and he marries a woman who's name is Pat. They are married six years and she dies and it seems that with her death comes the death of his writing ability. Speculation is that Pat was actually the person who wrote the books. Ford can not seem to make his way out of the slump he is in and along comes Jackie Maxwell. They don't get together right away but one day he hears her tell a story to try and calm a friend of hers down and he is fascinated. She tells a story of a young women's friendship with the devil--and what the townspeople did to her--Ford is intrigued enough by this story that he hires Jackie on as his assistant. Jackie is not quite sure whether the story she tells is true or not. Ford moves to Cole Creek, North Carolina where this story is supposed to have taken place. The things that happen after they get there will keep you on the edge of your seat. The ending will surprise and delight you. Another good book by a excellent author.
