What are your thoughts on the economy? Good time to invest in the stockmarket?

The stockmarket is crashing and the economic outlook is not great. Would you invest in the stockmarket at the moment? Do you think the stockmarket will go even further?

I expect a down year for the market but long term I think its okay to pick up some shares before this year is done. But I would not expect to turn a profit on that money for at least 1-3 years. Even tomorrow with the global market takins a 5% hit Wall Street might see a big hit too, if you're patient maybe pick up some shares but it might be a long year I suspect.

It's hard to say. While the value of the dollar is declining, you still may be able to obtain profits in overseas currencies. And, even in times of recession, there is always opportunity. As of now, there is alot of activity even though the economy seems weak (i.e. bank of america and countrywide, and other technology stocks). As of now, European and Chinese markets are experiencing slumps, while it may be ard to experience some profits, stock prices for some industries have fallen. If not, one may have to wait for this economic storm to pass. Maybe it will after a few quarters-- Perhaps I'm an optimist.
