when you could tell him/her to go to sleep coz it's bed time. My daughter will be 9 months old on Saturday & the ony way I can successfully get her to sleep is on the boob...when I do controlled crying, she just wants to play & we end up fighting for up to an hour or more - then she either gives in or I give up & breast feed her till she's asleep.

Why not just let her cry it out?

I have a great routine with all 3 of my children. My youngest is 15 weeks old and goes to his bed at 7pm, I breatfeed him upstairs till he is almost asleep then put him in his cot and he stays there till 11pm when he will co-sleep. My daughters aged 4&5 go to bed at 8pm and they also have a routine...bath at 7 story then bed. I have done this since both girls were 12 months old. At first my daughters cried and I had to keep going upstairs to settle them and after a few nights they settled down. I think routine and patience is the key.

Patience is the key but if you keep giving into the kid it teaches them early on they can get what they want. That was my point. CIO never hurt one kid. They all lived and they don't remember that mommy left them in the crib. They don't sit there and wonder where mommy is nor do they have abandonment issues.
