What would you do if your home phone rings all night?

Yesterday night was a nightmare for me. It all started at 00:30. When the phone rang I answered it and I heard a record: "Warning Warning, the skystar 1 is under danger, please check it" I thought it was just a silly joke from someone. I found out it is a record easily because of the beginning click, but I didn't know the reason. After a few minutes the phone rang again, the same message. And, in one hour we were called more than 10 times. I called the number appeared, but nobody answered, I insisted on calling, but there was nothing. As I gave up and went to sleep, our phone rang whole night until 07:00 in the morning. At last I was able to sleep. In the afternoon I called the number again, I was very very angry because of the situation in last night. I couldn't sleep, plus I had a headache because of that and I was gonna have an exam. He said it is something automatic and their system had something wrong. So, my night was a nightmare because of their stupid alarm system (they probably configured the phone number wrong) and my exam was terrible because of that (well, at least almost :) ) What would you do in that situation?

I sympathise, it must have been very frustrating. Why didn't you turn it off though? After the second or third ring I probably would have turned off the ringer, there are enough people with cell phones so we could be contacted if there is a real emergency. Whenever I don't want to be disturbed I usually put my cell phone on silent, and I've never had our landline disturb me like that.

Yeah I thought that too but my mother didn't accept that, anyway she regrets that now though :D And it is just annoying to feel you have to turn your phone off because of something like that, it gives me the feeling of being beaten :D

that's a pretty funny message. I guess I'd be furious if that were happened to me- phone ringing all night and disturbing my sleep. But if I was in the same situation I'd probably have unhooked the phone so that I don't have to hear it ringing and can go to sleep in peace.

Yeah, at first it was funny for me too, but as the time passed I didn't feel the same thing :) I found out that it is a security system of a shop or something accidently calls us

Get yourself an answering machine and screen all of your calls. At night shut off the volume and shut the ringer off your phone. After a short while when these automatic dialers find that they are connecting to an answering machine they will put your number off the list. You will then find that you can put the volume back on at night and not be bothered, but still get legit calls.
