The premier university of the country celebrated its centenial foundation in January 2008. Reliving our UP experience, can you share your own unforgettable story in or about UP? Mine is when a friend of my friend was boasting that he is studing in an exclusive school with a very high tuition. After telling us the tuition, the culture in his school, etc he asked where we are studying...I said "sa state university lang ako, iskolar lang ako ng bayan. maliit lang tuition namin (noon yun!)" Then he eagerly asked "Anong school?" San naman?" I answered, "Sa quezon City lang sa UP Diliman!" Talbog!

I agree that the University of the Philippines has been one of the premier schools in the Philippines but lately, it's been quite different. I don't know what is happening but the people from UP these days are turning out to be dumdums. No offense. I just met up with this guy on a date about a couple months back. My friend who set us up said he's from UP so of course, I got excited. UP people are rumored to be really smart and witty. The guy turned out to be one of the dumbest of the flock. When I last visited UP, I saw him again. He was with a bunch of his friends. They were like him too. But maybe I just met the wrong people but it did leave a bad mark about the people there. My brother-in-law was from UP and he is really successful now in the corporate field. And I have this other friend who is studying sociology in UP right now too. They are really smart but maybe that is because they graduated from PhiSci. In a way, I do enjoy the atmosphere in UP. The trees and the old buildings. I really had fun playing touch football there.

Maybe you've just met the wrong person coz i know a lot of men in UP who are really smart...but sad to say, most of them are about three years older than me :-) Males tend to mature later so better find someone that you. Test scores are not indicators that someone is really smart. Being smart is a combination of awareness and saying the right word to the right person at the right time.

poor logic. you based your conclusion based on a hasty generalization. you only did encounter one student currently studying there. and you didn't even know about his IQ whatsoever. that's just so stupid

Probably you just didn't understand him that's why he looked stupid to you. Sometimes people who are too smart look stupid to others because they can't be understood. Also making a very hasty generalization is really not nice

I miss riding around the campus by Ikot jeep during my free times.I remenber that the fare was still PHP1.25.Outside, jeepney fare is PHP1.50.I love walking from the Math Buiding to the IB buliding where I have Biology classes.I miss the food in CASAA...the pansit malabon, the sizzling viands, the fruit shakes.I longed for the classic bopis in the shopping center, the barbecue in the beach house near our org's tambayan .L miss the studying...I want to go back to college again.I am happy that I had a chance to be an Iska once in my life...now i am reaping the fruit of my hardship in U.P.I am flattered by the success, the joy of respect that my colleagues bestow.I am thankful of the attitude on life that U.P has molded in me.

Wow. PHP 1.50 for an ikot fare! Now the ikot fare is PHP 6.00 already. I'm a recent graduate of this school and I really miss my college days. Like you, I'm proud and happy to have experienced being an iskolar ng bayan.

oi! ka-isko chrysz! ^__^ i went to UP Iloilo, Miagao campus not knowing what awaits me there. my choices were UPD and UPV but my upcat grade didn't reach the cut-off for UPD so i went to UPV. i guess my most unforgettable story that concerns our school was during my first year, first semester, i was telling myself and even my classmates that i'm going to be there for just one sem, after that, i'm going to cross-register to another UP campus near us. i was so hellbent on transferring because i thought the place was so far from civilization. ^__^;; second semester came, my friends saw me during enrollment and said "i thought you were going to cross-register?", and i butted back, "i can't leave you mga pare." LOL i had a lot of good friends from different places, Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao and the place became so interesting and fun for me because i was with them. after i graduated i was so sad instead of feeling happy because i was leaving a very great part of my life. i didn't want to leave yet because i haven't got enough of it. but all good things come to an end. .

Hi! From where are you if you don't mind? I am from Sinson, Pangasinan, just 45 minutes away fromBaguio but I chose Diliman becasue was having her PhD back then. I was UPD last Friday but was not able to stay longer because I am going here in Laguna. I saw a little of the Komedya Karnabal sa Kampus Opening Parade. I wish I could attend a day of the campus fair. I miss it a lot.
