Advantages: -it's new so there's minimal maintenance, and stuff probably won't break down for a while -it typically comes with a warranty -you're the only person to have lived in it -if you build it yourself you get to pick the layout and finishes, so there's no fixing up or renovations to do once you move in (you get to build it exactly the way you want it) Disadvantages: -depending on where you live, they may be more expensive than existing houses -when you move in you have a lot of expensive stuff you need to buy right away (examples: appliances, window coverings, landscaping, air conditioning, a deck, a driveway, etc) -if you're building from scratch it takes a long time, stuff goes wrong, and it's very stressful -if you build from scratch it might not turn out how you expected (where as with an existing resale house, you see exactly what you're getting)
