this is basically for women who've been pregnant or are pregnant. have you ever had such a bad pain while pregnant that it feels like you're in labour itself? do you know what's the cause for this? how do you deal with it when you have the pain while pregnant and not during birth? i'd really like your tips and experiences.

I had stomach cramps several times when I was pregnant with my second child because I was still recovering from gastroenteritis when I found out that was pregnat. I was so skinny and can't take in some food on Nov 2006 and then suddenly, on January 2007,I found out I was pregnant again. I craved for some food while pregnant which may have caused the pain. When i experience it, I just try to relax and try to determine which part hurt. If its the upper admone, its safe. I just panic when I have stomachache and there's blood spots. If so, better see your OB Gyne or go to the hospital for observation and further diagnosis.

hmmm forgot how stomach cramps feel like. grins. but not sure it could be that. i try to relax too when that happens. well my pain from what i remember, it is most likely around my navel line you could say i think. i'm not too sure though as it's been some time since i last had it. when the pain is there, it's excruciating, i'm sweating bullets but after it's over more or less, a few days later i forget all about it. tht's the problem hehehe but so far, don't think i've seen blood spots. thanks for responding and your help. it's much appreciated.

Is this your first pregnancy? How far along are you? And aside from the pain, are you ill? There are various aches & pains that are normal in a pregnancy, stretching sensations, backaches from your changing body, and changes in bathroom habits (don't want to be vulgar but most moms will know what I mean) can cause belly aches. If you have a flu or stomach bug, it may be especially uncomfortable while pregnant. But there are some pains that warrant medical attention. If you've had another child, and the pain you have feels like contractions- you could be in premature labor. You could be dehydrated. Appendixes, gall bladder stones, etc- those things aren't pregnancy complications but they can happen during a pregnancy. If you're pain level is more than slight discomfort, you should be seen by your doctor or midwife.

well this is actually my second pregnancy. during the first, i'm not too sure if this pain occured or not. i forgot. (grins sheepishly) but don't worry it's not vulgar. it doesn't occur often. right now, i'm 32 wks and so far, i've had it like maybe 3-4 times i think. of course with gaps in between them. i did ask the doctor once and he said that there will sometimes be pain due to the uterus expanding and all. thus the discomfort. i'm not sure if i would call it like contractions too though. cos during contractions, the pain comes and goes, then comes and goes right. i feel like going long toilet for this one but when i sit down, well it's indescribable you could say. i can cope with it but at times it can be excruciating. after that i take a rest but a few minutes later, i feel like going to the toilet again. but this doesn't happen often so i don't take much notice. i have had this twice at night times in the middle of the night too. it's been some time since i last had the pain. but my cousin, who's in her first trimester, also felt pain so bad that she was just shouting you could say and felt tough to stand up. when she went emergency to check, the doc said the babe was fine and tht was nothing. it happens. thus my concern. but reallly really thanks for your advice. i now know that there can be other reasons for that too. for me, the doctor says that water level or fluid is adequate so no problem there. i guess that mean no dehydration. i'm not sure abt appendixes and gall bladder stones though. haven't had them but the doctor should have noticed if not right. thanks for your help.

In my last pregnancy I sometimes got light contractions that my midwife called Braxton Hicks. It is just the body getting ready for labor and it is nothing to worry about. I was advised not to put a hot water bottle on my stomach. Massage with essential oils can help but check these are safe in pregnancy before you try this. Having a relaxing warm bath can help ease the discomfort or pain. A few days before my due date I woke up with light contractions two minutes apart. I didn't think it was labor as I thought my contractions would start ten minutes apart. It was actually labor but with all the stomach pain I had been getting I thought it was just more Braxton Hicks. Good luck.

Hi, I think it is called Braxton Hicks as that is the name of the guy who named these false labour contractions.

grins, why the name braxton hicks?? is there any reason behind it? i used to have those light contractions too during my first one. it was painless. once i got admitted near my due as they said my baby was small and just wanted to monitor me. but i had light contractions really often that they thought i was going into labour! i told them it wasn't painful, but they were like better safe than sorry. so i went to the delivery room and stayed there and had to forego my lunch and dinner. boy was i sooo hungry. grins. after they realised it was a false alarm, they gave me a tablet to stop the opening and also to lessen the contractions. hehehe thanks for your experience as well as the advice.

I'm 33 weeks pregnant and I myself had a few times where I thought I was in labour I had such bad stomach pains. I find it happens to me if I'm really active during the day. hey there, enjoy your best response. everyone was helpful but i chose yours as i learnt something new. i had no idea that if we're too active during the day, the pain happens. i'm quite active i feel, but haven't had it for quite long. i can't remember how active i was when i had those pains before. thanks again for your help.

Yes I am pregnant at the moment and am having alot of pain in my stomach it is called Braxton Hicks contractions (false labour contractions). Many times I have thought is this the real labour contractions this time. The way to tell if it is real contractions is by the intensity and the how regular they are occuring. If they start happening every 5 minutes then you are most likely in labour. If they are irregular then it is Braxton Hicks contractions. If I find it really painful, sometimes I will have a warm bath or shower that helps alleviate the pain. Also find that walking around and taking deep breaths sometimes helps. When are you due?

ohhh, i see it usually is the case though. should have thought of it myself; regarding the name i mean. also thanks for your great information. i don't really like taking a bath or shower at all. hehehe but i'll definitely take up the walking and breathing advice from you. i'm due around late mar. 25th to be exact. how about you.

I had really bad pains that would come and go like every 5 mins, i WALKED to the hospital, and by the time i got there i was vomitting at the pain! they took me in and admitted me and gave me demerol. It had nothing to do with the baby, but i had a blockage in my bowels, from not eating enough fibre and stuff, So maybe your pains are gastinal or intestinal too, Your body does some really WEIRD things when your preggo!! This pregnancy, i have pains in my sides from the stretching, and in my back from the baby growing i guess.. I hope that you go to see your doctor if the pain is sever or your intuition is telling you that something is wrong.

ohh my god, vomitted at the pain?? that's realll bad. fortunately, the baby is fine. hmm i too have a bad eating habit. it could be as you suggested. but it's not often. it's good to know the causes at least. yehhh i totally get what you mean when the body gets weird during pregnancy. it wasn't this bad during my first. i too have pains in my sides and back. but more, my stomach and back feels so tired after walking for just 5 minutes!! i'm surprised myself. my stomach feels so heavy. hehehe i'll definitely see the doctor if i feel something wrong though. thanks for your advice. you were very helpful and thanks for responding.
