Any tips on how to avoid insomia?

This has probably been discussed before but I will post this to gain new/more insights. I have suffered insomia in the past--not being able to sleep for five days even-- but I have had my own ways of trying to "combat" it. There was a time that the warm milk+ honey thing did wonders for me..Another thing I did--when I get sleepy I try to immediately go to sleep. Last one--when I go to sleep I put on a "patch"--a tight one--to cover both my eyes, this way they will remain close even if my mind keeps on wandering (this may not guarantee of being able to go to sleep, but it still did wonders for me). Lately though they have not been working for me full proof.. I account this to the fact that my partner and I are now running a company which we both co-own. Too much stress I presumed.. I would really appreciate it if somebody out there could share their experience/ the things they did in order to "combat"/lessen insomia aka your very own "how to avoid insomia tips".

Have you tried a doctor?? Another suggestion, to read a book, but not one that is so entertaining that you won't want to put it down (like Harry Potter lol). Or, if you have something that you really need to read, but is boring or you don't look forward to it, then try reading it/looking at it before falling asleep. Whenever I read something like this, I fall asleep very fast... Good luck and I hope you have sweet dreams!

I have not tried going to the doctor but I mostly do not like to drink any type of medication--pills :) I like to read books, but the problem with me reading a book is that I tend to never put a book down unless Im done reading it to the last page :) and Im very picky with what books to read, so if I find a book boring I let it go and move on to doing something else :) Thanks for all the luck.. hopefully I will find a way to get to sleep somehow :)
