Do you think that it is right for the government to put up a law banning people from smoking outside? They already have a law in my province that stops people from smoking in there own cars if there are children present in the vehicle and you are also not allowed to smoke in front of any businesses and in some areas not even allowed to smoke on the street.

Well, i smoke. (trying to quit) I have kids. I do NOT smoke in the car when they're in there w/ me. I don't think people should smoke around kids. But, if someone decides to that is their right. They're in their own car and that is considered private property. If they want to smoke, they're going to smoke. And, I don't mind not being able to smoke in restaruants. Normally, I have my children w/ me, and i always choose non-smoking. a half wall w/ booths on both sides, one side being non-smoking, and the other being smoking is not what i mean by nonsmoking. lol It means i do not want smoke to go in my baby's lungs. They tried to pass the smoking ban in cars, but it didn't go through. If they can go as far as to say no smoking in cars, then they can take a step further and say no smoking in your house. Now, i want to quit smoking. I've been cutting down alot of it lately. It's one of the hardest things to quit, next to coffee. and in order to quit properly, you have to quit both at the same time. that's hard. when i am smoking and i see a child coming close, i'll either walk away, or put it out. i will not smoke around kids. I can't stand it when i see a guy holding a baby while he smokes...i just saw that the other day. It boils me, but i wouldn't go as far as taking his freedom away. there's not much of a free country left in america and i think we need to protect as much of it as we can...even if we don't like what others are doing w/ their freedoms. I think they need to focus more on drunk drivers. Yes, smoke will kill over time, but those drunk drivers kill instantly. That is something that is a danger to others. You can't walk away from a drunk driver, because you don't know that they're on the road until it's too late. You can walk away from a smoker.

i live in the uk and they have brought the banning of smoking in bars which isn't doing much for the pubs as a lot are closing down, also the non smoking in cars is in place but only for drivers not passengers-on the street you shouldn't but people still do--personally i think it is one of the worst things that have happened now the only place it seems ok to smoke is in your own home--and also i think that alchol should of been attacked as that causes more illnesses than smoking and the rate of alcholism is rising 100per cent in this country which brings more violence--it is a stuprid law they have brought in to stop smoking as there are even people in there 70's or more that still are living although they smoke-littleowl

They would be real morons if they banned us from smoking outside. They would see an increase in lung cancer in kids because some parents just don't care. I would rather go to jail then smoke in my house and harm my children, it'll never happen. If the government thinks we will put up with it they have another thing coming. There are alot of people out here that feel the same as I do and we would fight for the kids. You must be from one of the maritime provinces I live in Alberta. I'd like to hear your take on this subject.

Hello, david!we know smoking is injurious to health, but than we spend much to smoke.if the government is conscious about our health and the environment, then instead of restricting us to smoke, let it go for banning its production.thank you.all the best.

Last time I checked the government doesn't own my car or the air surrounding any area I occupy. This is just getting ridiculous. In the town I live in you aren't allowed to smoke in front of a hospital or in a shopping mall. That is about as tolerant as I am of this. Anything else I feel the government is infringing on my civil liberties.

I think it is getting out of hand when the government starts doing this. It is a persons own right to smoke in places that it is not effecting other people. Kids in the car, they are the parents or guardians of the kids. So in a round about way the government is telling us how to treat our children. I don't see how they could enforce to stop smoking in cars. Figure the amount of police they would have to have roaming the roads to catch anyone. That is just pure nonsense! I wonder who at the top comes up with these laws. Here (U.S.A.) they have banned smoking in restaurants in the state of Illinois. I am not sure of the other states. But the people who are in the high places should be concerned with more important issues than whether a person should smoke outside or not. That as far as I am concerned is trying to control the people's lives.

I don't think this should really be allowed because if i choose to smoke outside in my own backyard then i should have the right to do so, it's my property & i'm not hurting anyone else out there. Here in Australia they have some of the similar laws - no smoking in cars with children under the age of 16, they also say no smoking in front of shop fronts etc for about 20 meters i think. I don't think they really have a right to stop people from smoking out in the open where they aren't hurting anyone else, it's just making smokers feel like the minority & as they have already proven, pubs/bars are getting less people in them these days because smokers are required to smoke outside & a lot of people don't like that idea. Someone else said something about their car being their property & they can smoke in it if they want but i can only say 1 thing to them - if you want to smoke in your car then that's fine but maybe your children deserve the right to not have to breathe it in, since it's a confined space & it's just really unhealthy & inconsiderate.

I think that you are right about that cause people should be able to do what they want to do cause isn't this supposed to be a free country.

I dont think stopping people from smoking is necessary....in any way, there are many smokers,if the goverment put up the ban,I dont think it's a good idea.
