My daughter has chicken pox.

February 5, 2008 12:18am CST
It started Sat pm with just a few spots and now she is covered. I have covered her in calamine lotion. I was wondering how long till I can take her out of the house. I think it is when the last spot has dried up. Am I correct in thinking this?

oh dear! Chicken pox can be quite nasty and uncomfortable. You better call her doctor for advice. although some over the counter lotions may work on those ugly spots, it is still better to consult a doctor just in case something comes up.

Chickenpox is a highly infectious viral illness that causes an intensely itchy rash of blisters. The first symptoms appear 1-3 weeks after contact with the infection, and most children are completely recovered 7-10 days later. Keep your daughter away from school, and away from any woman who may be pregnant, for 5 days from the time when the blisters first appear.

I think you have to let all the spots dried up and rest for 4-5 days before letting her go back to school coz I know when it's not totally healed that's the time the virus spread faster, her classmate might be infected too .

I think they all have to scab first. Its been awhile so give her dr a call to verify. No school tomorrow. Good luck mom!
