I usually do all the cleaning on my own CPU. It's really simple to do if you know what you are doing. If you don't you could cause some unknown damage to your hardware. Mine doesn't get all that dusty either because I clean it all out once a month. As far as the keyboard I use that air spray that you can buy anywhere as long as you're 18 or older. It's a simple task. I also have a habit of using an antibacterial wipe like Lysol on the keys to wipe them clean so that any germs that were there, aren't. With as many as we have in our household it's easy to transfer any sickness to one another. The monitor I clean more frequently because dust settles on it the easiest. I use windex, but don't spray it directly on the screen. Always have an extra sock running around so I recycle it and use it as my duster. Cheap and easy all at once.

So far I only clean the outside of my computer. I have never bothered to pen it up and clean the CPU. Is it safe to do that by ourself? Would it affect the PC if we do not clean the CPU?

Hi amar, nice discussion. I think, its not possible to call the service man every now and then and that too for cleaning. However, cleaning and dusting is very important. For this I have bought some special flat brushes and you would laugh to hear this but I must tell you. I have an old hair drier which I do not use anymore. It comes in very handy. lol..

There is a moisture free dust remover cleaning spray that you can get in a can in the electronics section of just about any store. Just spray it around on your keyboard and such. If you want, you can even take the main panel off your cpu and spray it there. Just a few screws will open it up, and won't hurt a thing.

My Dad says one day he's gonna open my computer out and vacuum all the dust out of it because the dust overheats it and the fan is really noisy. I wasn't sure it's a good idea but he says he did it to my sister's computer and it helped.

A vacuum cleaner with a good crevasse tool (should be plastic!) will do an excellent job in cleaning that out. After you have sucked as much dust as possible out that way, blow out the remainder.

Its really simple, just open the case, detach the fan or heatsink, then use a can of compressed air to blow it off. Then re apply the thermal paste if you need to and put everything back. For keyboards, I would remove the individual keys and wash them with soap.

No, cause I've done it before. But the average person might not try it since how would they know that there is dust? The CPU is only a few centimeters thick and you can't even see it from the outside unless you remove the bracket.

I doubt that you would find an engineer who would clean your computer. These people are professionals and their rate of payment might be outside the range of most people. If you are unfamiliar with computer components and aren't confident in handling them, then invest in a can of compressed air for cleaning. Cleaning your own computer might be a worthwhile task to learn. Here is a guide for cleaning your computer from micrsoft: http://www.microsoft.com/athome/cleancomputer.mspx
