how do/did you go about taking part in discussion? do you look at the hot topics,no responses,new user? or do you have your network?

I mostly look at the discussions with no responses. If I can't find anything that interests me there I will prompt myself to the discussions my friends started. Sometimes the discussions related to the discussion I am posting will catch my I.
