Are Traffic Sites Good To Get Referrals For Ones Sites?

I have seen a lot of these sites on the internet and I wonder just how well do they really work. You know the kind that you surf and than you get credits so that you can show your own site or sites. I have often wondered do these really work towards getting referrals to a persons site. Help me out and tell me what you think? Do these work or they just part of the scam of the internet?

Well I have not had good experience with them but I might have been with the wrong ones I don't know
I will not join them anymore because every time I got to payout they disappeared
But that is my Opinion and experience there might be some here that are a Member of a genuine Site

It seems to me the same thing. But I don't know of any other way to try to get referrals. As far as here I have no problems in telling my friends about this site but known of them are interested in joining. So if a person could find a good traffic site than I think they would at least be able to come up with a few referrals.
