IVF Info (Ultrasound) needed for book

Are there any IVF ladies out there? A friend of mine is writing a book and her heroine has undergone IVF treatment. She wants the info to be accurate. I underwent ovulation induction over 20 years ago, so my information might be out of date. The heroine has previously had a miscarriage following IVF treatment, and is 6 weeks pregnant again and going for the usual ultrasound scan. Would they use an ultrasound where they put gel on your belly and you need a full bladder or would they use an internal ultrasound? (I know I had the latter, though it was new then and they were trying it out) If you've had one miscarriage, are they more likely to give you more ultrasounds to see what's happening (and for peace of mind)? My gyne-obstetrician used to have an ultrasound machine in his rooms. It was the usual put the gel on the belly type. Do gynae-obstetricians have the same types now or do they have the internal ones? Thanks for your help.
