The anciant tradition in india, where spirituality has been studied for thousands of years-not as a religion, but as a practical science-has always insisted that a guru is the sine qua non for success on the spiritual path.many people today, insist that with high level of literacy and books so easily available, spiritual teachings are accessiable to everyone and a guru is no longer needed.however, true understanding comes not by intellectual reasoning, but by intutive attunement with the consiousness of the guru is what most surely and directly brings brings spiritual awakening.has not everybody experienced,in the presence of certain people,a greater feeling of peace, harmony, and upliftment?if relatively ordinary people can affect one who is,himself, spirituality enlightened!in all indian tradiation, initiation into the spiritually by a true guru is considered more important than the teaching themselves.how can one attune himself with the consciousness of a saint-or, if one is so fortunate as to have fund one's guru with him or her?
