Carefully taping all of the flaps back into one of my son's lift the flap books! This is so frustrating but the problem is that he loves these books and does not understand that the flaps need to stay in the book!! I need eyes in the back of my head :) LOL So, what "cosmetic surgery" have you had to do to certain items because of what your child has done? Share all of your stories here and have a wonderful day! :) ~Heavens~

Ah yes, the books with the flaps.. I love books, so until my children were old enough the not tear them up, I put away the ones they could destroy and they could only have them when I was supervising.. In the meantime, I would give them the indestructible books that were plastic covered, and they also had the little golden books.. Not that they didn't destroy some books, like the little golden books, I can't tell you how many times those have been colored in... As for cosmetic surgery on something, I do remember with my oldest, this sister of this wonderful lady we knew, gave her a manicure set for her fifth birthday. She always seemed mature for her age and so I explained what each piece was for and it was so cute to see her filing her nails.. Then within a week, I saw in our brand new water bed sheets, what looked like a cut. Of course my daughter denied it, but we knew what happened, so we took away her set until she understood better. I did sew it and it held for a good while.. But I am so happy that she didn't get the water bed itself, my husband would have lost it...lol

My son will be five in June but he has Autism and so still gets into everything!! He is getting better but now that he is in school I want him to enjoy books and he loves to look at them on his own and with me...I am just glad that I was able to fix the book...It will never be the same but it still functions the way it is supposed to! LOL ~Heavens~

Oh I forgot about your son.. Yeah I can see why that would happen, but as long as he enjoys the books, it's worth it, don't you think? :)

LOL I can just picture your lovely son gently removing the flaps in his way! lol When Niamh went through her cutting out phase we had to laminate everything we could - bills, receipts you name it whatever she could find ended up as paper snowflakes! Banning her from using her scissors would have caused a lot of heartache so we bought her a set of 20 odd craft scissors - all perfectly safe and each blade that cut a different pattern - and a huge stack of paper! The deal was that if she cut anything she wasn't supposed to the scissors and paper would disappear! It actually worked too! xxx

I used to have to sew up my daughters stuffed animals when she was a child. Now the books you refer to here I've seen many different ones at the local Dollar Stores. Almost cheaper to just buy more at the dollar stores. HAPPY POSTINGS FROM GRANDPA BOB !!~

Oh, I have done my share of sewing my son's favorite bears arms back on also...He can't sleep without this bear and so I have to make sure that it lasts! :) As for the books, I have bought many at the dollar store! :) Thanks for the advice and have a great day! :) Heavens!

Callum loves to rip flaps out of books. Have had to sneak many a book back to the library in this state and he is only eight months old. I think he thinks everything is something to eat.
