I know there are a lot of married people here and I'm sure you'll have lots of help for me on this matter. I'm planning to get married and I'm overwhelmed because I don't know where to start in my planning. There just seems to be so much planning to do.

I would first start off with a budget and a date. Once you have a budget, start getting prices on things. Get the big ticket items out of the way first - venue, food, DJ, flowers, cake your dress - then move on to invitations, napkins, ect. For us, the easiest thing was the invitations. We knew we only want 50 people. So I went online and found the nicest, cheapest, invitations for 50 people. We made a list of who we wanted to invite, then divided the number of the people left between the two families. Don't forget to include your hubby in all your steps. Things will go much smoother if he is involved and there will be little pressure on you. I highly suggest you sign up for an account at theknot.com There are a lot of helpful tools (including a budget tool) on their site that you will definitely use. I believe this is the site that I sued to order our wedding invitations as well.

Read "Wedding Hell" by Natalie Victors. You can download the novel at lulu.com. It will tell you everything to avoid and not do. It's a true story and while frustrating for the actual bride, it's sort of funny too. Good book.

You need first to figure out how much you can spend, you need a guest list and a date. From there, you can start looking for a location and caterers, decide on the menu, the beverages You will also need a band or DJ, flowers, cake, photographer etc.

First of all, I hope you will have a successful wedding. It's true that you need to prepare for it well. As wedding is so important and everybody wants to leave a good memory of it. I think at first you have to select the dress and clothes you wear for the wedding. And then select where to hold your wedding. And you will think about who shall be invited etc.

Hi, I'm also getting married soon...I started my planning with by overall budget for the entire wedding. Then I used microsoft excell to list all the things I needed like number of guests, photographer, cake, venue, etc...and placed my estimate budget for each. These should add up to the total budget you have. This way, you will know which part of your wedding needs to stretch out or cut out. The food always take up the largest in your budget for sure. There are still so many things I can help you with. Just ask.

Start with the guest list. You have to know how many people you are going to have attending before you plan anything else.
