Have you ever tried to repair your credit?

I will admit it, my credit is just plum awful. It's from my younger days. Now I am trying to clean it up some. I have been researching on how to do it myself. I am getting ready to look over one of my credit reports while I am on the elliptical. Let's hope I don't fall off. LOL. I read a couple of good articles on improving your credit score on ehow just a little bit ago. I have spent a lot of time on ehow today. The articles said that I should write the creditors and request that they verify the debt. Then if they can verify it, I should ask to see a document that I signed and if they cannot produce it, I can ask them to remove the debt from my credit report. Also, if one debt is listed multiple times you can have it removed. There shouldn't be repeats. Such as when a collection agency purchases a debt from a company. Most likely they have both listed the debt on your credit report and that is a no no. But people don't catch it. I am going to look mine over very closely. I am going to do it one report at a time.

That is some interesting stuff there. Thank you because I am trying to fix my credtit too. And I went to a 1st time homeownership class and they did focus on you(the buyer) to try and fix yor report. They explained that you don't have to focus on the years in the past like 4 or beyond years to fix your credit. You can focus on at least the last 2 years to recent 6 months of credit that you did receive in with that time(focus on the last 6months to 2years) And if there is anything on your credit report that you didn't receive you can file for a dispute. I've applied for a dispute 2 years ago, my hubby had a credit card from Premier bank and they issued me one as the co-ap I disputed it and won because I didn't sign nor applied/asked for the card.(Now at that time we weren't married I think that is how i was able to dispute it) but I'm willing to shoot anymore information your why pertaining to restoring our credit if you like. I'm also in the process of fixing mine. Want to buy a house.

I was told that the credit breaus can update your report but it'll take up to 3 weeks to 6 months. They will report negative doing faster then the positive doing.

That is great! What if you ask the credit bureau to verify a debt and they do, does It get updated ON your report?

I am also cleaning up my credit. It went downhill after I had my daughter about 2 years ago. I am getting my credit cards back to minimum payments. What we are doing is just taking it 2 bills at a time. We got my Target account under the credit limit and now Victoria's Secret and First Financial Bank. I try to save money every week and then after a month or so use it to pay a bill. It's alot easier when you only owe $10 at at time instead of $200!

Good luck, and hang in there, you will get it repaired. It may take awhile, but you can do it. One thing, if you've ever gotten a late charge from a CC card company because the payment was received after a certain time of day and you show it to them your bill is paid in full. I got an e-mail saying that once, anyway. Also, if you've ever attempted to make a partial payment on a debt and they wouldn't accept it because it wasn't enough, again your bill is paid in full. I've been told these things but it's worth checking into to see if it's true. Annie

Yeah it is a good idea to look at your credit report and really contest anything that is there that should not be. Once you are ready to start rebuilding you should look in the VX Visa card. It is secured, but does report to the credit reporting agencies. I am using this one, and my score has started raising pretty much from the begenning. The cool thing is you dont have to put down some huge deposit. Good luck.

Also remember to pay off a bit at a time. My ex has left me in my own mess and I have a friend who is a lawyer and he is helping me repair my credit. Good luck and keep up the good work. Ainge
