If you want to have a special Valentine dinner but don't really have anything to make and you don't want to go out to eat, I have an easy and special dinner for you. It's a heart shaped meat loaf with pink mashed potatoes, and any red or white vegetable that you like, for example cauliflower. All you have to do is mix together your favorite meat loaf recipe then before cooking make it in a shape of a heart, and for the pink mashed potatoes, just make them as you always do, but after mashing them put a couple of drops of red food coloring then mix again. My mom always made this for us on Valentines Day and I have made this for my family for many years. Do you think you might give it a try, or do you have a special dinner you make for Valentines Day.

That is an awesome idea. Though I am vegetarian I can make it using ground soy. I was wanted to make something a bit special for the day for the kids and I have everything I need here to make that! COOL!!!! Considering the weather here and that there is another storm coming for tomorrow it is really hard to get anywhere now. Kids have been in school for 7 out of 16 days. Winter is still alive and well in Cape Breton. And I am going a bit shack happy Muhahahahaa

Wow, you must really have some bad weather. Do the kids have to make up the days when the school is closed because of the weather. They do here, I think it's been closed 3 days so far. I hope you and your family enjoy the Valentines dinner. Happy Valentines Day!

valentine's supper - my boys on valentine's day
Ok the "meatlessloaf" is the heart without the marshmallow eyes LOL. That one is a cookie inspired by your idea. They boys LOVED the loaf and even my youngest ate it up, which he usually doesn't do. Thanks for the hit!

I just might give this a try. Since my husband lost his job and our daughter has been in the hospital for a week that money we were saving to eat out has went into the gas tank. I think even we can afford to make the meatloaf though and I have instant potatoes in the cupboard. Thanks for the great idea.

that's a cute idea! I don't eat meat but I have vegan loaf recipes and a heart-shaped pan so I think I just might try that out!

Hi OURDEW,:) Actually, Valentine's Day is a bittersweet one for me. It's the anniversary of the 'first time' I ever heard my (late) husband's voice (on the phone). We talked for around a half hour, even though we'd never met, and an instant connection was made. A good friend of mine has suggested I do something special 'for myself' this year, and I'd like to include my sixteen year old daughter too. Since I cook 'all of the time,' and love to have a break, maybe I'll find a way to do this, for this year. You have such wonderful family traditions, and celebrations, and I always enjoy hearing about them. Your dinner does sound delicious ... Enjoy!

Oh What a cool Idea..... However I don't think my partner would like that but I would......He wouldn't touch any color mash, maybe the love heart shaped meatloaf, but would think I'm Crazy..... That really is a great idea though.. Thankls for sharing... I'm sure someone will try it, or give them some other ideas of their own.....

Oh my Ourdew, what a wonderful idea. I would have never thought of something as simple as adding red food coloring to mashed potatos to make them pink in honor of Valentine's Day! I love that idea. The heart-shaped meatloaf is another great idea. What I like is that both of your ideas are totally free and don't take any special equipment or fancy 'stuff' to make something special for Valentine's Day! Thanks for sharing this secret with us!
