My friend got fired from his job with computers last week. This came as a great surprise to him as he didn't get any warning. He wanted to work there until retirement. It was because he didn't get on well with one of his colleagues. His boss told him and then when he returned to his office all his colleagues had gone home early. Have you ever got fired from a job? Do you know anyone that was fired from their job? Thanks

I've got fired from one job and it was because of the guy that was dating at the time. His ex girlfriend was buddy buddy with my boss and she didn't like that fact that he was dating me after breaking up with her. All she had to do was make up a pretty good lie about me, tell the boss and that was that. It was hard to believe since it was for the city that I use to live in. I tried to fight it but didn't get very far with that since my boss didn't particulary like me anyways. It sucked but what can you say, it happens.

It is terrible that his ex-girlfriend told your boss lies about you. You must have been so upset because you didn't do anything wrong. Breaking up affects some people badly and it is a shame that your boss didn't like you more. Thanks for your great response.

Oh your friend must have been devastated. I can't believe that the manager didn't pull the two coworkers together and try to do some conflict resolution rather than to just fire him. Usually if everyone involved tries to work it out a compromise can be reached. Thank God I have never been fired from a job.

I think it would have been nice if a compromise had been made. Having meeting to discuss progress and then saying if the problems are not sorted in one month he is out. Yes, my poor friend was devastated. Thanks for your superb response.

Ive been kinda fired of one of my job. I'M sayin kinda because I knew that they were not keeping everyone after the big rush. I was working at wal-mart and after 8month of working there I receive a beautiful letter saying that they didnt needed me anymore. They get people to work for them during summer and Christmas time and after that, bye bye. But it was ok. I'M better where I am right now :P

I am glad that you are better where you are now. Yes, some large shops like Walmart take on extra staff especially when they are really busy at Christmas time. I am sure they gave you a good reference for the 8 months you had worked there.

yes, when I was still a teen - I had a job working at a popular pizzeria until I went to work at a store closer to home - this store had a deli which made pizza - I was asked how they did it over at ****** and would not devulge the secrets - I was shortly let go with a created reason, I think it was because I did not tell them how the other place made their pizzas.

I think that this was very unfair indeed. It was not your fault that you couldn't find out how the other place made their pizzas. Sometimes businesses treat teenagers not very nicely.

I was fired from my job at American Airlines. I had been working there for 3 years and one day they decided to fire me and a co worker. They said that we were missing work n coming in late. That was not true, so put a complain at headquarters. At the end we got our jobs back with a raise and 5000.00 to clear up all the damages.

It must be terrible for an employer to say untrue things about you. Well done for reporting them and getting a raise and damages.

Many US jobs are "at-will" jobs. Employers may dismiss employees with little or no notice due to restructuring, business downturn, or other reasons. Employees may also quit with no notice.

This sounds very informal. In the UK there a temporary jobs, permanent positions and contracts that must have written notice. Many jobs in the USA don't offer much security then. People may have bills to pay and they would sad to lose their job.

No, I personally have never been fired from a job. I have always given my 110% to any job I've had. I have quit jobs before though. My son was let go once when he worked for a dentist, she was a very onnery (sp) person to deal with, very picky about everything, well my son was a young kid about 16,just got his license and I guess he got on her nerves. She said he took too much time running her errands to suit her, so she fired him. It's not a good feeling to be fired, I can only imagine. I'm sorry your friend lost his job, I hope they will at least give him a good referral for another job. It was not for a poor performance that they let him go obviously, it was for not getting along with everyone at the job place, can happen to anyone.

It is good you just quit. Teaching jobs need quite a bit of notice, like start a job in September, give notice before October to quit in December. Head teachers have too give two terms notice if they want to quit.

I got called out on the carpet one day at work. I had a funny feeling something was going to happen when other people were fired earlier that day. When I went in I was accused of everything but, since I knew it was coming, had accumulated enough evidence to prove innocence. It wasn't good enough for them and I was fired anyway. Too bad...I have a much better job now! Their loss! :-)

Yeah I was unfairly fired from a job I had worked at for 17 years. I was fired because one of the guys that worked there too and was a favourite with the boss, was taking advantage of me, my doing his work for him, and I wouldn't do it anymore. So he bad mouthed me to the boss and I got fired. He lied to the boss and said I applied for another job with one of our competitors and the boss believed him. I never even got much of a chance to defend myself, they walked me out of the building. I was crushed because I worked for the company for 17 years. I was probably one of their most loyal employees and I worked many hours I never got paid for. I was on salary and so we never got paid for overtime and I probably put in 20 hours overtime every week. I went in on Saturdays and Sundays when it was very busy, just to catch things up. So, I was really hurt when I got fired and I swore every since i will never give my all to a company again, and I haven't. I won't work overtime no matter what, and I will not work on the weekends anymore.

Yes I was working for this company for only 2 weeks. I had come in over the weekend to help with getting the place cleaned up and organized. Then the following friday my boss pulled me into her office and told me that they didnt need me anymore. I was the only one in the office that didnt talk all the time and was doing stuff. It was absolutely lame. But I found other jobs since then and it was their loss not mine. I am sorry about your friend. Let him know that it was their loss not his and that he was meant to find a better job.

Oh yes. Last year I was "laid off" from the CPA firm I worked at right after tax season ended. I was not too surprised though, because I realized that things were not going too well there and they had lost clients and such. Even still, I really wasn't prepared to hunt for a job. I hadn't scoped out the market, hadn't updated my resume, nothing. I guess even when we can tell it's coming we are usually still in denial. Human nature. I've never had anything like what your friend is going through though. I hope this won't be a problem with him getting unemployment benefits. It's hard to find jobs right now, so he's going to need that.

Ah I am a student not an employer. But I tell you some stupid story of my college time. One day Our maths teacher was checking assignment and then at that time I had not done it yet. So Teacher asked me some anger statements and then haahaha I abuse him and said come out of the college and I show you who am I. And then I am out from college for three months I still remember that day and I feel guilty for what I have done with teacher.

It sounds like your friend was unfairly treated when he got the abrupt sack. But usually companies have reason for firing people, and in the case of firing someone without warning, the reason is usually a very serious one for which the employee has no recourse. Maybe your friend could ask his boss or HR the reason. Even if there is no chance of getting the job back, at least the company should be fair to him and let him know the reason for their action. I've not be fired from my job before. I could never imagine this happening, because I was a responsible worker and manager. Neither have I tendered resignation from a job. But I voluntarily left my job in recent years, and the company granted me an early exit package, so i got about 8 months of salary when I voluntarily left. I could have gotten more, but I didn't push for it and left on a good note with happy memories.

I have never been fired.. I teach in one of the universities here in our city. I have been in this organization for almost eight years now. It's my first and current job. I started teaching immediately after graduation and left since then.

have't yet .feel it's really terrible if this happen in my company.cause by witness some laid off,if some one was told you need to leave , he had to pack all things up and slip in minuts, no other time to prepare ,under the monitoring of the boss ,just as you are a theif. since then you are a person has noting to do with this compay. I think this looks horrible to any body ,but we get use to it after many times.
