OH, what a nightmare!!! I can't beleive that a little bit of bad weather can totally shut down major portions of a state, but it happened tonight. I don't know how many of you know this, but Maryland was a total mess today. I had an appointment north of Baltimore today and my boss told me to watch out for the weather because they were calling for major snow/ice storms today. Early on, I did see a few snowflakes, but they stopped pretty quickly, so I didn't worry too much. About 3pm or so, I started to see sleet and figured I was almost done and I'd stick it out. At about 4pm, most of the people in the office I was working at were high-tailing it out of there because of the ice. The owner said he'd stay as long as I needed, but I was almost done so it wasn't too long. Well, I left at 4:45pm, called my boss and told him I wasn't going to stop at the office, I was just going home. Two hours and 15 minutes later, I got home. Normally, it would have taken me an hour and 15 minutes or so. My husband works about a half hour from home and it took him 2 hours to get home! The entire drive, I was calling him, asking "Where are you now?" My drive was pretty easy, until I got close to home. There were so many accidents and closed roads because of the ice that driving anywhere was nearly impossible. I have never taken so many back roads to get home! I'm sure if I had tried my "normal" route, I'd still be sitting on the highway. My nephew works 15 minutes from here and it took him about an hour and a half to get to my house. When I lived in Colorado, this would have never happened. WHY??? Because they've got this kind of weather all the time and had the equipment to handle it. Here, it happens every couple years so it's not worth it to pay for the equipment to sit around that long for when we need it. I understand WHY this happens, but I don't understand why no one else understands it! All day tomorrow the big topic of discussion will be "How can we avoid this in the future?" - without spending any more money... There isn't really a lot we can do, but I sure do wish people would understand it a bit better... I'm just glad everyone I know made it home in one peice!!

OMG girl that had to be a total nightmare for you. I live here in So. Calif. and when we get a hard rain it renders the city un-driveable LOL. We've had a lot of rain this season. More than we ever get so it's been really tedious at times. I just bought a brand new car and I am terrified someone is going to Skid in to it... OYE VEY !!! LOL so I am a wreck when I go out in the rain with it. We had had freezing temperatures the last couple of nights so our deck has had ice on it and my poor plants are a mess. We are sure not used to that at all. I remember the 4 miserable winters I spent in CHicago area- Ugggggg. I worked 13 miles from where I lived and one night it took me 4 hrs to get home- I thought I would burst from a very full bladder before I saw the lights of home. LOL. Hang in there and stay warm girl!

We don't get weather like that a lot, and that was the main problem. Our highway system wasn't on the ball, which really messed things up for the drivers. Although my drive that day was only about 45 minutes longer than it would have normally been, many people were 2-3 hours longer than normal. I am used to driving for long trips - 3-5 hours - but when I got home that night my back hurt so bad from the stress. I'm still working the kinks out of it :)
