Is there always a burning Love desire with EX??

They say Love is blind, skirtish even in Skirmish and perishes when not Cherished. Well I dont know if you believe it or not but the drama a friend of mine is in quite explains it all. This friend of mine dumped his first Love for another girl, but the is this hitch going on between them, and thats what I am confused about. His ex, has gotten herself another boy, and Vice versa, but the duo still feel there Love whenever event happen to repeat itself, I mean when ever they accidentaly meet. There is this Adrenaline Rush in boh paries, you can see it in there eyes, and even they go as far as unleashing it, not bothering about what happened. After they must have ended their rendevous. I just want to figure this out, cos this same thing do happen in the movies. So I want to know, If there is always a connection, with ones EX cos if there is why do they seperate. Cos I can now see why some match doctors or other relationship intructors will advice Never to accept being Friends with your EX.
