Our right to Bear Arms.

Yesterday a young man by the name of Steven P. Kazmierczak walked into a Northern Illinois University classroom shot and killed 5 people and then turned the gun on himself. Steven had three hand guns and one rifle. Just the other day we had a Jr. High student walk into a school and shoot another student, that student is now brain dead. The weapon was a hand gun. Last week a man walked into a City Hall and murder five people and then himself. In Los Angeles they buried their first SWAT officer today from being shot by a gunman. When will the killings stop? That is the question on most Americana's minds. The second amendment right is to Bear Arms in our Constitution. It is our right to have the arms, not to use it on anyone we want to. I was raised with a father who is a life time member of the NRA. He taught my sisters and I to respect all guns, treat them as they are loaded and never point them at a human being. I know that guns do not kill; people kill. Now I am rethinking my views on our Second Amendment right; the right to have hand guns. Don't get me wrong I have a hand gun, it is a small 22 gage pistil that fits into the palm of my hand. I like that little gun only because it is cute and it was my father's. I have only shot it once and that is when my father gave it to me. If the our Second Amendment was revoked tomorrow for hand guns, or even rifles I would gladly turn in my gun. I if it is safe to have guns? I am wondering if as humans we are not able to police ourselves to respect guns and not turn them on each other. I have heard some say we should allow all College students carry guns for their own protection. Is this the answer? I think not! I feel if we allow more hand guns we will have more murders from hand guns. This is not the wild west we are suppose to be civilized humans who know how to treat each other with respect. If more people are allowed to have hand guns then there is more of a chance for these guns to get into the wrong peoples hands. If someone broke into my home they would get my hand gun and my husband's rifles. My biggest fear is that our guns will be stolen and used in a murder. What do you believe we should continue to have the right to bear arms especially hand guns? I would love to hear from people from other countries who are not allowed to have guns what do think of our Second Amendment right?

I guess I have mixed feeling about it. It is getting to the point you need one to feel safe. On the other hand, it is making it so that the wrong people are getting ahold of them. I do not think that making it illegal would keep the criminals from getting them, they would just go and find them somewhere else. We just might be defenseless.

It is a difficutl question to answer. With all the murders we have had here lately it makes one wonder what it would be like if we only had access to hunting rifles and it was very hard to get one what the crime rate would be like in murders.
