Most of the construction workers in my area are illegals, so they're definitely not getting paid a lot for what they're doing. The homebuilders benefit by having lower labor costs and not paying social security, benefits, and worker's comp. They pass some of the savings on to the homebuyer, but I'd rather pay a little more and have an American-made home.

I agree. Plus, illegals rarely do good work so there's that.

The mostly unorganised sector is construction sector. They are paid less and benefits and amenties are meagre. This is particularly so in India. In Bangalore the construction industry is booming and a very few construction companies are taking care of the emloyees. Most firms give sub-contracts and sub-conractors give last priority to the welfare of workers. The immediate requirement is to bring construction under industry category and they should be given all the benefits that a industrial worker gets. Until a few years, the workers were not given a safety hats.
