My lot cut my star rating

Mylot cut my star rating from 8 to 7 because I started a discussion about a killing of a cat. Actually I was confessing and told a truth. I also indicated that it was an accident. One of my respondents complained to mylot that the discussion was not concerning to ethics and without listening to my words, mylot cut my points. I am very sorry to say this because I was full of respect to mylot. My respect towards the mylot and community remains. But it is requested to consider both the sides of the coin, please.

andyvish, same happened to my star rating some months ago just that i posted a discussion and i argued with some respondents. I just discovered that my 9 star rating dropped to 7 after the whole discussion since then i don't argue again. if your star rating is low it decreases your mylot reputation so guard against further decline.

Thank you. But punishment for being truthful is really annoying,

myLot isn't the one that decides what your star rating is, so looking at both sides of the coin isn't an issue here. Your star rating is based on the ratings that other members give you on your discussions, comments, and responses. If you started a discussion that other myLot members felt was a bad one, it's very possible that that was what brought your star down from an 8 to a 7. You can read more about the star ratings in the myLot FAQs.

You were already told by several posters here that it wasn't myLot by fellow members that caused your star rating to drop. I didn't see the original post you mentioned but I did hear about it and I can tell you I know it apparently was offensive to some members who are huge animal lovers and advocates. Had I read it, chances are I would have had the same reaction, to be totally honest. However, without knowing any details I can say I know accidents happen and people make mistakes and hopefully learn from them and change. That having been said, don't be too upset about your star dropping, I've been through the same thing recently and there's nothing we can do about it other than to continue to post to the best of our ability and you'll surely be able to make those members that may have been upset or offended by your earlier post see that you're not a bad guy. Some will advise you to avoid controversial discussions or to not disagree with anyone so as to not ruffle any feathers but I'm afraid you won't get that advice from me. BE respectful, do NOT be offensive or abusive but don't be afraid to state your views here because this is a discussion forum. Annie

It was not myLot that cut your star but it was done by the members who must have misunderstood your intention of posting such information or story over here. However, the star would not affect your earning or make you less popular. So, do not worry too much about it and start posting other topics so that you would get more positive ratings and that would bring your star back up. Cheers!

Hi Dear I think your rating was down because you got negatives from other users.. It's so sad that there are some users who used to rate us negative. I used to respond to only my friends discussions and to the quality discussions only. My star rating has gone down many times and so I have learnt a lot from this. Still star rating doesn't mean much to me .. for adding smile to your face .. I rate you +

Just wanted to comment on Sid’s comment above, I don’t think you can say that the author was not remorseful from reading his previous discussion. I agree that it wasn’t worded well but to me it seems it’s a language thing. I don’t think English is his first language which is partly why it’s come across that way. He admits he killed a cat in anger by throwing a stone at it, he said it was an accident as he was angry and it sounds like it was a reflex action. To me it sounds like he threw the stone to scare the cat away. I’m not making excuses for him but trying to see what actually happened. As for admitting he killed another cat whilst on his motorbike, I guess some of you would rather he have been killed than that cat killed from the way you’ve responded? I’ve been driving my car on many occasions when a cat has darted out in front of me and I’ve had to slam on the brakes to avoid it and almost hit another car. This is so much more difficult when you’re on a motorbike and he said he had injuries, presumably he came off his bike due to the cat running out into the road. So this is his fault is it that the cat jumped out in front of him? Like it’s the train driver’s fault when someone jumps out in front of a train? I know there are a lot of animal lovers here but personally I’d like to give the guy a bit of a break and not call him a monster…

myLot couldn't have done that. They wouldn't do something like that. The decrease in your rating could have been brought about by members here at myLot who have given you a negative rating (-). Let's just put it this way, you cannot please everyone here. But do not let this kind of experience bring you down. Let it be a challenge for you to become the best you can be. Work on getting back your rating. Strive more to have a higher one. Good luck to you my friend.

Don't worry about it. Some time ago my star rating went from 10 down to 9. I didn't even know why. Soon afterwards I went back up to 10. I don't even know if these star ratings actually affect our earnings.
