Does anyone one out there have a recipe for the sweet tea that they make down south... My kids went to Texas last summer and fell in love with sweet tea... well up here in the Pacific Northwest there is NOTHING to compare to it... so maybe I thought someone wonderful here on mylot could help me! thanks!

Ok, wait--are we talking about iced tea or hot tea here? For hot tea, that seems like alot of sugar to be adding (from a Tetley tea person and nothing but!) and all that sugar doesn't seem all too healthy for you. So maybe I am confused, even for iced tea, don't think I'd wanna be ingesting quite so much sugar. There are some really good brands of iced tea out there, Lipton's included. Maybe I am just not getting what this sweet tea is all about! We drink alot of tea in Canada, too!

The sugar probably -isn't- good for you, but since when does southern cooking have anything to do with healthy eating? haha. The amount of sugar that gets added to iced tea or hot tea (sweet tea is better iced, I think) is usually a little excessive, but that's what makes it good... In theory. I guess it's just like everything else, we have to use (in this case drink) it in moderation.

Thanks for the explanation, Chesire Cat. I had never heard of Sweet tea before. Sounds like iced tea. I am a 'tea granny' by nature and love my afternoon and evening hot tea. You are right about the moderation.

Southern tea is made the same as tea is anywhere else except we add a lot more sugar to the mix. Lipton's Extra Sweet No Lemon tastes pretty darn close to what my family makes at home.

We are every day using Sweet tea.I dont know which kind of tea you mentioned. We are making it only using water, milk, sugar and tea powder. You can add these according to you want. You can make a lot of tastes from these things. Thanks
