I have always wanted to sing but have let nerves let time and life pass by help!

I have always wanted to sing ever since I was a kid. I used to get complemented on my singing when I was younger. I have been in choirs nearly all my life and done singing workshops in different styles of music from gospel, to taking part in the BBC's play it again workshops around the country. When I was younger I wanted fame and fortune. It was an unusual ambition in those days, not like today where everyone wants to be famous for being famous. However, I've let nerves and consequently life pass me by. I would still like to do backing singing (session singing) or just sing in a jobbing band in my spare time, or sing in a worship band. Now I'm 40, not that 12 year old with heaps of ambition, but don't look it thank the Lord! I'm a bit out of practice, apart from singing worship songs in church every sunday as part of the congregation. Has anyone out there got any advice??? What can I do before one day I wake up and I'm 50 and I've still done nothing?!

Well, you can do something like I'm doing. You can install, or have installed, a cd writer into your computer, and record your own songs onto disk. Then, you can send them in to different online companies, and they can make and sell cd's for you. I'm doing this with cafepress.com. I've only got one CD so far, and on that I only have one vocal (six tracks, but the first five are instrumentals I did on the computer), but it's a start. If you want to check out what I'm doing as an example, you can go here: www.cafepress.com/bcFIMyself I doubt that it's going to get me on stage somewhere to do a live show (which, I think would completely freak me out anyway, so...), but at least people have the opportunity hear what I do, which is really all that matters. And, if they like it, then they have the opportunity to buy it as well.

(I've made about five posts on mylot tonight, and each time I've forgotten something. Where's the ginseng when you need it?! lol) Sorry - I forgot to say two things. The first is that I'll be 33 in a few months, so we're only 7 years apart, if that's any incouragement. The second is that, whatever you do, maybe you could share it with your congregation so not only will you have something to do on your own, but you as a part of the church chorus might be able to bring in money for your church through it as well. Just a thought. Good luck - and if you would, could you maybe pray that I'd stop forgetting things, because it's getting rediculous :-)
