OK... I have always loved to write... and I would love to be a writer... but I cannot do it. I don't have a problem answering people's question... and I can easily write 5 pages on something I know about... But when it comes to write a fictional story... I get a zillion ideas in my head... but cannot get any of them started on paper. One of the problems I seem to have... is that I don't seem to be able to stick with one idea. I keep coming up with new ones and simply don't know where to start. Any tips? I noticed that there are many writers here... Anyone of you ever wrote a novel or a book? How do you do it?

First of all, get an outline of about what you want to write; (simply the theme...) Get the points as it comes to your mind. Read and try to justify your points and narrow down to say 5/6 points. Develop them pointwise. Of course one discussed point would lead to another. Start writing with opening coverage, go on analysing the pointwise jottings, relate the points and characters you introduce. Go on... conclude nicely.

I think writing comes naturally for some people. Others really have to work at it and some people have no talent for it at all. I would suggest that you read some good books about writing. One of my favorites is "Bird By Bird" by Anne Lamott. Also check out "The Writers Handbook". If you have a zillion ideas, you may find that you are better at writing short stories. Good luck!

My first suggestion to you would be to sign up for an account at Associated Content. You can write articles there, and get paid for them. Up front and for page views. That will help you hone your writing skills and if you check out the forums there you can hook up with thousands of professional writers. Many of whom can tell you where you can published. One person suggested making an outline. That can be very helpful. Different writers have different styles. I tend to come up with an outline in my head of key points or plot twists and then just let the creativetly flow to get from point a to point b. You may find that point b doesn't fit, thats okay be creative. Before trying to write a novel, why write some short stories first. This will let you flesh out some idea's without thinking you need to come up with 200-300 pages of copy that makes coherent sense. Take baby steps. Writing is an art and don't forget to read. Read authors you like and see how they put stories together. You can learn an awful lot about pacing and plots. If you visit my profile page here there is a link to associated content. Hope I was of some help, good luck.

It is quite normal for a writer to get zillions of ideas when he/she is busy with one story/novel. Don't get overwhelmed with all the ideas. You know, a fruit, such as a jackfruit, has so many seeds in it, but if all seeds become jackfruit trees, there will be no place for you and me in this world. All your ideas are not meant to grow into a book. Here is a tip for you. Maintain a small note-book in which you write down every tiny idea you get along with date and time if you wish. This will give you the feeling that you are doing justice to all your ideas. But when working, work with ONLY ONE IDEA, and don't give it up for another even if it looks much better than the idea you are working with. Store it in your notebook--it will be your second novel. :) I hope you get the idea. Consider it this way. The book you are writing now is like you spouse, you can't cheat on your spouse by paying attention to other ideas. But of course, once you are finished, there are plenty of other potential partners (ideas) to look at. Hope I don't sound crude. Cheers and happy writing.

You need a thought book. This can contain what ever you feel like at the time. You need to record your thoughts on different subjects as you think of them. have a few pages of story starters and write pages about each story idea that you have then work out the main characters and others involved in the story line work out roughly how you want the story to end and then start a fresh page and make it all work together. Another good idea when starting a story is to work out what you want covered in each chapter. Then just write. you might not get it right the first time, but eventually you will write something you consider is worth publishing. Also dont be discouraged if the publisher turns you down, yeah your story might just suck but you owe it to yourself to send it to as many publishers that will read it because you never know with books, some of the best sellers were turned down numerous times before being published.

hello there to U...it's good to know that you've always loved to write, and that you would love to be a writer...good for you...i can see that you have the potential to become a good writer someday, GOD willing...writing a fictional story is really cool...i really love reading a lot of books too especially the BIBLE...i love to read fictional novels too...i do admire some of the great writers like Stephen King, Carolyn Keene, William Shakespear, Emily Dickinson, Norma Klein, etc...i just think all writers, composers, poets, journalists, and editors are really so talented, i do admire their creativity... I have friends who were writers and composers too, some of them would write books, journals, articles, compositions, some of them composes songs or poems...like you, there are moments that i would like to write or compose too, something of my own thoughts, but i'm really having a hard time doing it...so i did ask them how they would come up to a good writing... They told me that, writing is not an easy job, it is really tough, which i really do agree...even professional writers find it difficult to write their first sentence on paper...well, compared to speaking, i would say that writing is more difficult...because in speaking, you do not have to think of mechanics such as using the correct punctuation or the right spelling...speaking is also easier, because your listener can automatically respond to you and tell you if your message isn't clear...however, in writing, you do not have get immediate feedback from your "listeners." In fact, when you write, nobody is there to tell you if your message is clear or not...they told me that writing entails a lot of concentration, patience, and hardwork...you really have to labor hard to come up with a good composition or writing... One of them told me that before proceeding any further like writing a great book, you need to practice first writing...he gave me some of his steps in writing when he was still a beginner...First, list down all the ideas floating in your mind to help you sort out your thoughts...after writing down your thoughts on paper, choose which idea appeals to you most...just repeat the process by jotting down all the ideas in your mind about the focus you have chosen...Next, visualize your thoughts...another way of brainstorming is by visualizing or drawing your thoughts on paper...instead of expressing your thoughts with words, you may draw them on paper to give you a better picture of the ideas that fill your mind...Then, after visualizing your thoughts, you have to use your imaginations...however, if your mind seems empty, then it is time to daydream and go back in time...start recalling your past experiences and reliving moments that can help you write...let your imagination work full speed... After those steps, you have to plan how to present your ideas...Questions like, how do you want to present them? What ideas will you write in the beginning, in the middle, and in the end? You have to state the topic sentence first, your topic sentence is the controlling idea of your paragraph...it will help you provide direction in your writing because it contains the main thought of what you want to write...stating your topic sentence will guide you in developing your ideas...it includes your general idea and the specific focus you want to discuss...it will also help your readers predict what your compositions is all about...however, you don't have to state your topic sentence all the time...you may also imply it as long as your message is clear... According to them, the toughest thing in writing is beginning it...after doing so, it is easier to express your ideas...be sure that you tie up everything with a clincher or concluding sentence that reflects your main idea or topic sentence...after that, rewrite your composition...the key to good writing is rewriting, as many writing experts would say...thus, after writing your composition, take a closer look at what you have produced...try to anticipate if your reader will find your piece clear and interesting...check for errors in grammar and mechanics too...see if there are other details you can delete or add... After examining your work, start rewriting it...as you rewrite it, more brilliant ideas may come and help you improve your work...you can ask for feedback...show your work to your friends, or other people and ask for feedback...so that you can polish it further, there is no harm in improving your work...now, there are some books you may find yourself yawning as you read...the words you see remain nothing but empty and boring, no matter how hard you try to appreciate them...however, there are also those moments when you can simply cannot put down the book you are reading...you savor, chew, and digest each word... Descriptive language is the secret of good writers...they use it to make their work more colorful, concrete, and appealing...descriptive language is best suited in creative writing because according to them, it requires a lot of creativity and imagination which can only be achieved by using vivid words...descriptive details give readers a better picture of the ideas being presented and enable them to step into the world of the writer...without the use of description, the text would be dull, colorless, and boring... Now there are tools in a descriptive language...there goes the figures of speech which are expressions that use associations and representation meaning of ideas more clear and concrete...they are images and comparisons that should not be taken directly and literally...Another tool of description is the concrete words, to vivify ideas, specific words should be used...example, the word "talk," it has countless synonyms, like whisper, chat, converse, chatter, communicate, complain, coo, declare, etc..each word has a definite use or function depending on the particular situation being described...Another tool of description is, sensory details...these are words or phrases appeal to the senses...they enable readers to visualize, feel, and experience the ideas being presented indirectly... In writing as they say, you have to enliven the readers or inspire them, make them find your writing so interesting...they told me that writing is indeed a tedious process, but the experience is all worth it...it challenges your brain and awakens your creativity...most of all, it gives you a venue for expressing your thoughts and feelings...at first, you may find it hard just like me, but practice makes perfect...so you just have to practice writing, and you'll become a good writer someday... I'm sure you're gonna make it, just believe in yourself, pray, think positive, just don't give up, and you'll see you're gonna be a good writer...i hope and pray you'll be a good writer...i know you can do it because you're smart, sensible, intelligent, and awesome...just believe in yourself, there's nothing wrong in trying...good luck...have a blessed day to U...may GOD BLESS U & UR family always!!!
