my digital camera has a spoilt lens and it sets me back by about $180 to repair it. it's an olympus brand; we've always been using that brand. it's also 6 megapixel i think. now my husband is wondering if we should just repair that and use that or buy a new and better one for maybe around 7 megapixel. yes there are good ones with higher megapixel but we do not really need that high also. so we were thinking should we buy camera of around 7/7.1 megapixel with budget around $300(a good one) or the latest ones. also, which brand would you recommend?

I suggest getting a new one. I remember having my new camera repaired to get a new LCD screen. It cost about the same cost, too, but cameras here are really expensive. Anyway, I suggest getting a camera from Sony or Casio. Although, Olympus is a really good brand.

thanks so much for our advice and help. i appreciate it a lot. i'll consider about sony or casio too, need to let my hubby know. yes, it's because the repair costs nearly the same here too, just a bit cheaper, that's why we were thinking of maybe getting a new one instead. thanks for your response again.

yes, you should definitely buy a new one. My lens spoilt too, I think because I brought it to the beach and somehow water gets into it. I bought the same brand as my old one, but with their latest model. It is Sony T200. I just love the features. But if you are on a tight budget, I will recommend Casio cameras. They are slim and packed with good features.

i have not seem much of casio cameras much here but i'll definitely have a look at them too. yes, our budget is tight so we have to consider it a bit carefully. but i'm just curious, how much did your latest camera(sony t200) cost? thanks for your response. it's much appreciated.

I think you already have a good enough digital camera. There is no much diffrent between 6 or 7. You should look for 8 or higher. But if your camera always need to be repair and cost so much. You better buy a new one. I recomend you find brand that can use other memory. I'm not perrefer Olympus because when to buy memory card also need to buy a same brand. Like Kodak or canon they can use and brand or memory card.

ohhh, i had no idea that we could not use olympus memory card for others. i like canon cameras too but i have to see what my hubby says also first. but you have definitely given me a point to consider here. thanks so much. i think i might suggest to my husband on getting an 8 too. thanks for your help.

From my experience, even after you get it repair you will not get the quality as before and it will not last you long. Therefore I advice you to get a new one and go for higher resolution. You should consider getting a Canon or Nikon. You try to compare the features and the price. Good luck to you.

first of all i would't advise you guys to go for a repair ... I would rather prefer to buy a new piece.. Well if you like photography as a proffessional level and that techinical whiz.. Then go in for a better cam then 7.1 or if you use sparingly then that config would be more then sufficient... and about the company it is just a personal preferance

thanks for your help. it's not for professional use, just for normal use like taking pictures during special occassions and such, that's all. thanks for your advice. both my hubby and i were also of the opinion why send it for repair at that cost when we can buy a better one although we need to pay a little more. but we were still undecided. thanks for your help. appreciate it.
