For years I've been creating photo albums on Yahoo! Photos and had amassed quite a large collection of my scanned photographs on there for easy access. It was also the easiest way for me to store my photos when I was on vacation and had full memory cards. I didn't back them up or anything, because those were my backups. So I go to log into Yahoo! Photos today and there's a message on there: Yahoo! Photos has officially closed so we can focus all our efforts on Flickr, Yahoo's award winning photo sharing community. Since June 2007, we provided Yahoo! Photos users several options to move their photos. If you did not take the opportunity to move your photos, unfortunately they are no longer available. For those users that did move your photos to another service, your photos should be waiting for you there. --- Unfortunately for me, I created my account using a Yahoo! email address that no longer exists so they had no way to contact me. Guess who lost all her backup photos? I certainly hope I still have hard copies of all the ones I hold near and dear. :S The same thing happened to me years ago on Walagata.com when they shut down. *sigh*

You should start right now backing up everything you do on CDs or DVDs. Even the stuff you have on your computer. I keep a CD and DVD back up for everything. I used to have this supposedly wonderful computer tech that turned out to be the biggest ripp~off in the world. I learned the hard way like you did and lost a lot of stuff. They weren't pictures though. They were business papers. Yeah, it translated into dollars and cents. More dollars than cents. I now am prepared for the worst at all times, with back ups for the important stuff and the memories and the fun stuff. If you do not know how, get someone to show you. You should never put anything personal on the net anyway. Folks can get into it so easily and use it for their own purposes, and sell it etc. Keep that stuff for yourself and your friends and family. I have received their e-mails in time that's why I had the chance to move all my photos. And even if I did not, i still have back up of it in my computer and cd. Yes you just have to pray taht you still have your hard copies of those photos because O think there is no way you can recover it from yahoo photos. Then dont forget to save it somewhere else as a back up
