how to use Ironer or straighter

Hi all, My Brother in law gifted me a a staingner from UK. But it was not having any manual with that. Can any one tell me how to use that and is there any gel or lotion that i need to use. Its heating so i think its harmful to use but i still want to use rarely. Whats the difference between lroner and straighner. Pl help
