I am 36 year old and soon will be 37 and I have been a home maker for past 15 years, if you ignore the one year that I worked as a nursery teacher. I have just taken a diploma course from NIIT LTD in Software engineering with excellent grade and 82% marks. I am also appearing for SCJP from Sun Microsystems by end of April.I would like to work as a faculty or computer trainer in any leading institutes like NIIT or APtech or any other. As I am currently living in a tribal belt there are no such centres around. I shall get out of here by June 2009. My dillema is will I still be able to get a job then. Will my age be a constraint in hiring me even though I have excellent skill in the field. What do you think?

This is a tough one. I don't know what it is like in your area, but perhaps it might be easier there. The thing is, how do you get a good job without qualifying experience. At the same time, how do you get qualifying experience without a good job? Another thing is as faculty (especially teaching faculty) or a computer trainer, that takes one other skill. That is taking your own knowledge & successfully passing it on to others. There are many who know, but to teach someone, they're just not very capable of successfully having someone else know what they know. Age can also be a factor, because the older one gets, they usually feel that you may be unable to work because of the health problems as you get older. It also means less time that you would be working for a company that will hire you, because you're also that much closer to that age of retirement. Even then, employers don't see it that way, but that 21 year old usually ends up leaving after a couple of years for a better job that will pay them better.

I have been unable to get jobs because we are constantly moving due to my hubby's transferable positin. I could have joined the samwe institute from where I did the diploma but he again got posting orders and we could not retain the house. I was considered best and suitable for the teaching position by my faculty members but things didn't work out. Just my luck and with each passing of the day, I am getting worried if I ever will be able to get any job. By next year I am thinking of settling down at one place and working and let my hubby move around. I just hope someone would hire me.
