Getting referalls

I have been learning alot in the last few days about referrals. The what to do and not to do. It can be a very dedious task if you have no money to start up with. But if you have some money to shoot out alot of ads. It really shouldn't take very long to come up with some referalls by posting ads on all these traffic surfing sites. Anyone know any really high traffic sites to visit?
