What are your talents? If someone gave you seed money...

Say someone gave you $5000 in seed money, how would you use that to grow a business that capitalizes on your talents? My answer: I would update my kitchen and start selling my famous (local hit) VT Maple cookies online. I feel my unique recipes could make a lot of $$ if people just spread the word about them. My 2 big recipes that I sold at Christmas time exclusively are "VT Maple Crunch cookies" (family recipe tweaked with my own creative flair) and I also have a "Green Mountain Hazelnut Cappuccino chocolate Cookie" which is DIVINE. A little crunchy on the edges and chewy on the middle. I came up with that one on my own. I use VT ingredients such as maple syrup for the maple cookies, and Green Mountain Coffee Roaster's Coffee for my cappuccino cookies. During the holidays I'd sell my cookies for $6/ half dozen and shipped them in the US via Priority mail. One lady ordered $190 worth of cookies for relatives and it became WAR because nobody wanted to share the cookies with their spouses. LOL So, I guess my biggest gift is in the creative cooking & baking industry. I can't do it fully commercial, there's something special about home bakes and I think that feeling is lost the bigger you make the batches and the longer you store the dough and etc. I like to work fresh and in small batches for quality purposes & ship same day. So, If I had $5000 seed $ I'd first invest in my kitchen and buy a US mail shipping scales/postal account and start selling fresh homemade cookies. My side business/hobby biz would remain in my dogs and showing/breeding. That's NOT a money maker, just a hobby & one I feel I'm good at. :)

Let's see, I think I'm good in copying other famous personality's voices. If ever I would make a living out of it, be it as a simple hobby or for the fun of earnings and showing my talents, then I would invest that money in opening a reasonable business so I could earn and work on my own. I really don't like being pushed around and run errands for other people, I prefer to be the boss than be bossed around!;)LoL I say it could be an internet cafe, a diner/restaurant or could be a mini grocery for the whole family to operate!;)

in the present it's really dificult found an incoming extra. 5000 $ isn't a great capital so i would play it in poker or casinĂ² where i can duplicate the money. i know that the risk is very high, but in the life we must risk if want build a good future.

It's good for microbusiness, but it definately won't make a person rich. If gambling is something you're good at that may just be a ticket up! :)

I do not have any idea what I would do. Maybe upgrade a portion of the house and have a home daycare again. Have not done that in years, but I am good at taking care of people. I would also choose to do it small scale, as I hate the idea of children growing up in daycare centers. I would rather they have a home experience. Another thing that I could do would be to be a personal shopper. I wish that Wal Mart would hire me to help the elderly and disabled. Your discussion just made me drool. It sounds like you already do okay.

I have thought about doing the personal shopper thing too. That would be fun. I wish my house was done, I'd do a daycare while my kids are young. A small daycare here too, as I don't like those big institution types.

I would surely get a good digital camera and a laptop. Offer my service as photographer to parties, weddings, birthdays with $5,000. That could start off my hobby as business in photography. OT: You breed and show dogs? Which breed?

I raise and show Rat Terriers :) Photography is fun, I've worked for others in that field. I would enjoy it as well. I just don't know how I'd market myself. (I can be shy)

Well if given the money, I would use it to expand my business. As you can see, I have started a training center for Emergency Care Courses in our city. We are offering Basic Life Support courses and it is now 1 year since we started it. I have conducted so many training already to several schools, universities and companies. But we are only offering basic courses since we lack the equipment for advance life support courses. I would love to expand and offer this courses and the money would be useful to buy the necessary expensive equipments. Our training center website is www.basiclifesaving.org

Very interesting, what a great program you have there. Best of luck getting that equipment that would take you to the next level. I was a JR EMS volunteer in High school. It was quite the learning experience.

My talents are playing music like the piano so I guess with that kind of money I could update my instruments and play at maybe local restaurants or something.

That sounds like fun. How long have you been playing on the piano? I used to play the Viola, but that's probably not the most marketable thing for me to do for living. lol I'd gladly be a patron at a restaurant that had a live piano player, it certainly adds to the atmosphere.

I would use it to open up a candy store. There is one by where my sister lives with big jars of candy that is a penny a piece. I think a store like that would be a great hit here in the little town I live in. I would have a small menu of food and the candy sales. Make it kind of like an old fashioned soda shop. That has always been my dream.

A candy store, that sounds like fun. I think the best part of that job would be decorating!
