Whatever you do DO NOT read this post

Ever notice that some people respond to posts without actually reading the post, they just read the subject. I started a discussion about people who do silly one line posts that prompt for one line responses without discussion and with my tongue firmly in cheek I put as the subject "Do you breathe" someone responded that they don't breathe as they are a ghost and then proceeded to comment on what a silly and pointless discussion it was. The topic had several responses all on the topic of the ACTUAL discussion, just this one that was responding only to the subject. I have seen it a few times on myLot, and it kind of bothers me that people would bother responding to a topic without actually reading the topic.

Wait...you mean we're SUPPOSED to actually care what other people are saying!? LOL I've seen that way too many times and had it happen on many of my own discussions too. Some people just want to make as many responses as they can in a day and so they won't take the time to read what they're actually responding to. It's a waste of our time to have to read the nonsense but it's also a waste of their time to write it since they'll possibly end up deleted anyway....they'll never learn though!

yup, plus it lowers their ranking since I give everyone who responds on topic a plus and everyone off topic a minus.

Sometimes it seems to me that people may have read the topic at the start of the discussion but have not bothered to read all the responses. I wonder how many people respond without having read what other MyLotters have said before they post.

I have to admit I sometimes skip over some of the responses, especially if it is a topic I am particularly interested in, but I do usually go back and read all the responses later.

Hi Myrrdin, I think it is because of the subject - let us not expect that everybody should be good at reading, understanding and writing(replying). I think you are too jaournalistic in writing your discussion and subjecting it. It is better that we put more understandable subject to the discussion we start to avoid this misunderstanding. Because I think you know that there are people from different countries around the world and I have seen that many saying they are not good at english - let us spare them if they would have wrongly understood your discussion. We must also be aware that there will be bullies who would have wantedly responded the discussion in a wrong way. When there are so many different people here, let us not get distracted by few answers - and let us ignore them. Good Luck.

Well the topic not only said "Do you like breathing" it also had in brackets "Not really the topic". I am more than willing to overlook minor difficulties with language, however if you don't even attempt to read the post or any of the replies what is the point. In the case I mentioned I could not have made it clearer that Do you like breathing had nothing to do with the actual topic but was for demonstration purposes only.

Why do you make a topic about not reading your post? LOL just kidding I hate too when they completely miss my point or when from their answer I imagine they haven't read the post carefully, only skimmed through it.

in the case I mentioned the poster not only skimmed the topic, but didn't bother reading it at all. A post that just missed the point is one thing, but one in which is completely off topic entirely, that's another. Some people are just lazy I guess.

Yeah I've understood it weel. Maybe I worded it incorrectly: I hate people who don't read the topic AND I hate skimmers too. But the first ones are worse obviously

I agree with you to a t. Most people don't read because they are more interested in how much they can earn in one day or how many posts they can make in one day. I tend to read and reread several posts before I decide what I am going to say in my response. Some of them I read and see that there are so many responses with what I was going to say that I don't end up replying but I still rate the post. I try to do quality and not quantity but I do have an amount I would like to reach daily, a simple 10. I don't try to hurry myself when I am on here and if I don't have time I will always come back and try to read more later.

I guess its the difference between the people that think they can make a quick buck here and the ones that like to discuss on here and view the paltry pennies you get extra as a perk. Ironically the less you care about the money the more you earn here.

I find it funny when the responses have NOTHING to do with the subject at hand... makes the person look out of the loop, and obviously just in it for post counts and/or earnings... which is kind of understandable. I just joined, and while I joined to make a few extra bucks, why not have fun while doing it? There's a big community here, and there might be many interesting discussions going on day to day!

Yes, i completely agree with you. When i start a discussion, i have also seen that few responses are such, it is clear that the user has not read the discussion properly before answering. it irritates me.I also get irritated with one liners.

I have noticed that, too. Maybe you can just rate their response negatively if the response is way off topic. I think some people just respond for the earnings, and not for contributing to a discussion, which is sad, because it defeats the main purpose of this websites.

I've seen it several times. Even in a few of my discussions there's typically a response that proves the person either didn't read my discussion, or they are blatantly "post farming" (posting just to post and "earn" credit).

I have to admit, now I've got a bit of an urge to make some substantial discussions with ridiculous and meaningless questions as titles, and then see how often people read the entire thread. However, that I would also feel it to be a waste of my time. Ignorant people are everywhere. LOL.... to paraphrase a famous movie quote from the sixth sense.... "I see (ignorant) people. Walking around (and posting) like regular people. They don't see each other. They only see what they want to see. They don't know they're (ignorant)." Why bother with them? They don't bother with you, do they?

LOL I love that alteration of the six sense quote. Very apropos. I don't get easily rattled, so they don't directly bother me much, but I do take note of them, and venting on myLot about even the most minor of nuisances can be fun ;)

The fact that you find that amusing is exactly why we're friends... we're both warped. :P As for not being easily rattled, that would depend on the time of day and what you've just done. BOO!!!!
