Euthanasia

I read a touching article in a magazine last week. A woman was dying slowly of a painful disease & decided to take her own life. It´s illegal in UK to assist someone in suicide so she had to go to a clinic called Digitas in Switzerland to do it. Her children realised she´d made her mind up so they went with her. The woman chose to die with dignity rather than endure another couple of months of agonising slow death. Her daughter is now being charged with a crime back in UK for her part in it. Personally I feel if someone wants to do this, they have every right. If they are dying of a terminal illness they should be able to stop their suffering if they opt to. Do you agree?

I agree, I feel its humane. We in the US have the same types of laws that make this process illegal.

I totally agree. If the person is still in sound mind and knows they have just a life of pain and suffering infront of them, surely they should be allowed to opt out and not only save themselves from this torture but also save their family from having to go through it with them. To make sure they did choose themselves they should be able to signa legal document and get it witnessed by an independant person i.e. doctor or lawyer as proof it was totally their choice.

Each case is different but everyone should have the right to make their own decisions. Why should we watch someone suffer if there is no hope of them ever getting better. we wouldn't let any animal suffer we would have it put to sleep. so what is the difference?

People are not allowed to end one's life. God gave us life so he should be the one to get it from us.

But shouldn't it be considered an act of cruelty to not allow someone to die, but instead endure the pain and suffering that comes with diseases etc? I know I'd like to die with dignity and save my family the pain of watching me suffer in the long term.

I do agree wholeheartedly. I am all for euthanasia, but only if it is done right and not abused which many things can be. What I dont get is our goverment will leathally inject a perfectly healthy (maybe sick in the mind) a criminal but wont humanly let someone die with dignity.
