How often do you read you e-mails?

I'm a netizen (a slang word for people who are always surfing the net) and my e-mail is necessary. I use it to connect with friends, with business, as storage of files or as back-up storage when my hard drive corrupts, etc. Well, I have friends that create e-mail accounts but doesn't use it actively and some have never even opened their e-mail address accounts in their lifetime. I read my e-mails regularly. For example, I open my Yahoo! Mail account every week to check messages and reply to them. I also store some files and save them in my drafts. I use my Mail in its full functionality. How about you? How often do you open your E-mail account? What other functions does your E-mail account serve to you?

cr0ssf41r13, You are my HERO! I am like your friends - I have email accounts that I fail to open for weeks at a time. Your topic caught my attention less than an hour after I re-activated 2 email accounts that were in 'pending deletion' stage! Luckily, I had a 60 day window. I think I failed to log in for about 40 days, but the accounts are OKAY now! I am learning how to use FILTERS, finally, in my email accounts, because TRULY, I stopped logging in to some accounts due to SPAM encounters. Now that I have learned how some of the filters in certain email accounts work, I think things will be much better and I will maintain my accounts better. It is an awful thing to avoid logging in to email accounts just to avoid the work of poring over which mails are spam and which are really from the newsletters or other things officially subscribed to. What is worse than that, however, is that 1 of the accounts re-activated and saved from deletion is an account I have had for a LONG TIME but I DID NOT ever read the instructions on how to use the account to its fullest extend until TODAY! That is the worst point I'm making.....many email account providers actually have quite nice tools for members, but many people (obviously, myself included!) simply IGNORE learning about their accounts and the services they are using. So, cr0ssf4r13, tho' I am not as organized yet as you seem to be, I hope to reach your stage of 'utility' and your 'responsible' standards sometime soon! I hope to actually reply to emails from friends (and biz acquaintances) on a better, more regular basis, too, and keep my accounts organized to the full extent of their service. Part of my disorganization has come from not knowing CLEARLY what purpose I wanted for each of my email accounts! I belong to some clubs and some other sites similar to myLot, so there are details about money-earning in some of my accounts, however, I didn't 'sign-up' well with certain sites or select the right email accounts to use to correspond with certain sites. Now - today - I just made a kind of 'sandox' address out of my most spam-receiving account and plan to filter out all my programs from there, taking 1 hour per day to do this until I am very organized. I will soon have all of my 'mylot and earning-program' emails going to a certain address and 'my webhost provider and hosting reseller programs' to be used under a different address. I will check back in this thread to see what others post under this topic. Hopefully other people will write about their emailing habits, too - and some of these will be VERY GOOD and responsible habits that I can pick up on!

I'm glad this thread helped you. Being organized even in the smallest details is one of the ways wherein you will make your life easier and more spontaneous. I am a Website Administrator too. I've polished my HTML and is getting some dose of PHP, though I'm not really learning enough. I decided to give an unannounced hiatus to my website because I'm very busy and I don't have time to maintain my site, because it's evident that maintaining websites require time and updates in a regular basis. I've been into the Website thing when I am thirteen. I started to do some HTML coding and layout designing. I started to create layouts through PhotoShop when I was 14 and became addicted eventually. As I am learning different techniques in PhotoShop, I'm becoming open in the thought of earning through 'selling' this talent. However, it could get in between my tight schedule. Even this MyLot thing is way beyond my schedule. Though, i still manage to give 5 minutes for this everyday.

Wow, this is one lucky thing! :) I'm glad your e-mail accounts are re-activated. It's like destiny is giving you more time to reorganize yourself. :P Anyway, I have the same problem with you too, before, when I was a newbie in using e-mail accounts. I tend to keep everything in my inbox and never open them. It'll flood up to thousands and I'll be too lazy to delete or read those e-mails. Like you, most of them are newsletter subscriptions from random sites. I've read that you have e-mails about your webhost provider and your hosting reseller programs. Are you a website administrator or of some sort?

No, I'm not an 'offical' anything that you mentioned! I'm just learning how to earn some extra money online, is all. I'm learning (like most people online are doing) how to BECOME a decent webmaster, and I have found that a very decent 'niche' for earning money is in reselling hosting and domans, things of that nature. Ultimately, it seems that anyone who wants to build a business online will eventually require a website, so I'm learning about this niche, but it means that I have tons of lessons comeing to my email. It also means that I am learning as I go - so some of my 'hosting sales' accounts need to be separated from lessons and personal emails from friends. Luckily with all the opportunities online, people don't have to be complete experts in order to earn money online. Unfortunately, a lot of people fail to increase their knowledge of the niche they select to earn money in and then they also fail at earning money online. I have decided to GET ORGANIZED and be very assertive about learning all I can about the opportunities I am involved with, so that I don't 'fail' like thousands of other people do with their intended online business career. Your thread helped me see even the importance of organizing personal emails from friends, and I need to get as organized as you seem to be - even just with my friends. Being disorganized with all of my emails has left me little time to respond to friends and this is a huge problem too. This problem turns my online time into 'strictly biz' and I get 'burned out' too often from all the tasks I have to do online. Getting email organized - even the small steps I have taken - has already helped me be able to grant some time to 'fun activities' and allowed me to respond to some friends who have been emailing, saying "hey where the heck are you?"

well, I am a netizen as well. hehehe. I read my work mails everyday, in fact everytime when there is a new mail. I used Microsoft Outlook for that. Not only that, my Outlook is linked to my Hotmail and Gmail, both are my private emails and I read them too whenever there are new mails. I have "for fun" or casual emails, in which, those are most of the junk mails sent by my friends go to and I read them like once a week, over the weekend only.

I can see that work e-mails are really a must-read everyday. :) Microsoft Outlook is a great software for the management of your e-mails. But, I rarely use it.

Hi crOss, I am a metizen also and I am always learning from you creative people online. Using e-mail accounts to store files as backup in ingenious. I am going to start it tonight. I have several e-mail accounts but I always have my IncredImail open in my task bar and it notifies me when I get new mail. I have had to change mail programs several times do to my inbox filling up with spam. Thanks for your informative post.

You're most welcome, Browisn. I'm so thankful you liked the back-up idea. :) There are quite a few mail providers who entertain spam and it commonly floods your inbox. I have tried a (not trusted) mail provider before and I'm so pissed with spam mails flooding my inbox everytime I open it. So, I switched to another mail provider and then to another. I'm changing neighborhoods, as a netizen. LOL

You welcome crOss. By the way, I ment to say I am a netizen, too. I even get spam from big internet providers like Verizon.com and Excite.com and Yahoo and after sending them abuse notices and blocking the sender's domain I still get just as many as before.

Well, I think there something in the 'filter' system of Yahoo! that you could use for filtering the Spam Mail that gets into your e-mail. I've tried it and had no problems with my mails. :)

I'm forever checking my emails account, several times a day. I have 3 active yahoo accounts, each serve their own purpose, so I have to check them frequently.

You have the same deed with bongkarpasang. She has 5 e-mail accounts--and all are active. So, I'm intrigued with how you use these three yahoo accounts.

Emails..u would be kidding.. I do that whole day.. sitting idle in the office whole day .. have nothing to do other than checking mails and forwarding it to friends.. However i have a restricted access to internet and moreover the company people have blocked access to public mailing sites so i don't have a free access to other mailing sites like Gmail or Rediff.. However i try my best and keep searching for options so that i can check my mails.. Mails help me in exchanging pics.. However my official mail.. i also use it for sharing the assignments so that we can copy the same and submit..lol

Ah, yes... my family relatives e-mail me the pictures of the family gatherings that I miss, most especially, because I don't have enough time to go to the reunion because of my "SUPER" busy schedule. And the copying thing works for me too. LOL

Ah yes, it's really a necessity, especially for people who are doing business like you. To me, I'm still a student so I don't really need e-mails for doing business. But, I use my e-mail to read e-mails whilst they pay me.

I actually do not use my email, unless for school or unless I have something important that I need to read and identify. But the thing is i like using email because it's cool and very useful. Alot of times I learn about different things that are going on around the community through email. But really I do not use email as often as most people. Usually I'm on other sites before I will email.
• Philippines

Yes, that's true. I receive stuffs which are really going on in our community from my friends. I become updated on a regular basis.

I always check my email whenever I have time. So it can be few times in a day. My husband does not really like it, he said it just waste my time. He suggested me to do my email once in a day when I really have time to read and reply the emails. I use the free email account so I just go to the site.
• Philippines
7 Mar 08
Oh, it's sad that your husband doesn't like the concept of reading e-mails and replying to them. I wonder why... but it's okay since he suggested to read your e-mails once in a day.

well to be honest i don't open my mail box too often.i'm all the time busy managing my social network,i.e orkut. i check out my mail whenever i get notified by my friends that they've sent me an email.
• Philippines
7 Mar 08
Thank you for your honesty dipjyoti. Before, I was like that too. I only check my e-mail if there is something really important that my friends would send me or I need to verify an account. Since I have so many subscriptions, I eventually decided to open my e-mail regularly to be able to delete or read the e-mails I receive.

During weekdays I always checked my email everyday. At weekends or holidays I cannot check my email by then. I only got to check my email when I'm in the office. Although at our home there is an internet connection available but most of the time my brother-in-law is the one using it or my husband. They always play the DOTA-Allstars.

It's good that there is an internet connection in your office. Your problem is at home, where your brother-in-law and your husband 'owns' the computer. I'm lucky that me and my two other brothers each have a computer of our own.
