Does anyone on this site have a child that has been diagnosed with or thinks that their child has ADHD? If your child is diagnosed, do you feel that society judges you as taking the easy way out? How many tried natural remedies first before going to medications? Have you found a medication that actually helps your child, without turning them into zombies? Mine take Focallin XR, we have tried 3 other medications before this and none worked. Once on a plan (meds, diet, etc) did you see a difference in how your child behaved (school and home)?

Both of my sons, ages 9 and 8, have ADHS. My oldest one is slowly growing out of it and i'm hoping that my youngest one will do that same as the older one. I don't have either of them on medication, but give them stuff to do besides sitting in front of the tv all day. they are only allowed to watch tv or play video games for one hour a day. the rest of the time, if it's not to cold, they go out and play basketball or hide and seek or tag. it's good to stimulate their minds by finding them stuff to do instead of the tv or games. they color or they write. it's really helpful. their doctor tried many times to put them on medication and i absolutely refused. I didn't want them labeled with that because there are a lot of things as they get older that, if labeled with ADHD, they wouldn't be allowed to do and I just couldn't bare the thought of them missing out on stuff from this. thanks for posting and God bless

I have limited his TV, video games. We go for walks, do crafts, go to the park, obviously school work. I havd the notion that he had it when he was around 3, we went to the doctor and I told them straight up, I would not put him on medication and for over a year we tried everything from diet, activities, holistic methods, etc. Nothing worked. We then tried ritalin, but it didn't work and when we would have had to keep increasing his does to for me unsafe levels since he has a super high metabolism. We then tried concerta, that didn't last long enough and it was getting frusterating. the next was metadate and that didn't work either. His school work was falling behind bad and it was a struggle to even get him to go to school. he would always get into trouble. i can say that moving to where i am has been a blesssin, at his other school i had asked them to test him so he could get some help, they stated they would and never did. this school has gone above and beyond. the cool thingis his teacher went through the same thing with her son, so she works with us alot. since he has been put on Focallin, his grades have gone up and he loves to go to school. heck, he even bugs me on the weekends now to go to school.
