Does anybody what kind of defects rotts have? Are they something they get because of their breed or just something they get from their parents? I know some breeds are more likely to have certain things wrong with them because of their breed.

Genetic defects will depend on the breeder that you get your dog from. I bred German Rotts for 10 years (my female was hit by a van at 8 years old & my male passed at 11 years old). We never had any problems w/ any genetic issues w/ out puppies ( 7 litters in all). Hip displaysia is VERY common w/ ANY larger breed dogs. Out of all of those litters, NONE of the dogs had displaysia (2 have very bad arthritis but they're 7 years old now and that happens) & one dog developed a brain tumor when he was 2 and had to be put down. I think that's pretty good out of that many litters. To get a pure bred dog, many breeders will breed brother to sister/father to daughter to make the lines 'pure'. This is what causes genetic defects. I would recommend German Rots, they seem to be less inbred, but also harder to find a pure german rot. Like I said, genetics all depends on the breeder and parents.

Most dogs like humans can have genitic defects. but honestly i think the only defect a Rottweiler can have is an owner that didn't take the time to learn what kind of dog they were purchasing. I think all dog owners should do research befor eowning any kind of dog. because like people they are all different and have different needs. I am glad u took the time to ask about Rottweilers it shows you will be a good owner that is caring and concerened about the wellbeing of your dog. good luck and enjoy whatever pet you own.
