I teach in a small community where the students have very little exposure to travel and other cultures. This, to me is very sad. I would like to ask if anyone out there would be willing to send us the front page of your local newspaper. I would especially be interested in those from outside of the United States! If would be interested in this project please let me know! I am even willing to help, as I can, with the mailing of the page! Thanks you!

Tell me exactly what you want and where to send it and it will be on it's way. I will happily buy and send you a selection of daily UK newspapers, but I need to know how much of the paper you want. There are weight restrictions on what I can send by post. Do you want our local one too?

No I'm not a teacher and have no connection whatsoever with any school anymore. But I think that it is important that children grow up showing an interest not just in their own locality but the World more widely. I know from my own time in North America that some newspapers can be very parochial, that happens here too. But we are a relatively small country so quite often national and local news become combined. I think that your idea is an excellent one and that you should be encouraged. What age group are your children. Have you ever thought of starting an internet link with a school overseas. My daughter's old school had a very successful link with an identically named school in Brooklyn. In year 9 (15 years of age) the schools arrange a one week exchange. We hosted girls from there and vice versa. My daughter's at University now, but she still keeps in occasional contact with her Brooklyn host family and they with her. Anyway PM me with your school details and I will send you what I can. Comics and girls and boys magazines too.

My students are fifth graders (age 10/11) and I try to involve them in many events that they may not experience on their own. As I may have mentioned, many of them are are from single family homes and from very difficult situations. I don't teach in the city (thank God!) but one can tell the students who do transfer in from there pretty easily. I am waiting in ernest for the copy of the news you have for me! Is there any chance you could record some local news/favorite tv shows on a vhs tape so I can share a flavor of your area? I would happily pay for the tape and shipping! If you do happen to have a near by school it would be so great if you allow me the information so I can contact them to start some kind of 'pen pal' program! (hmm. Do kids actually write lette nowadays?!?) Thanks so so much for this opportunity!
