I need to wash the gray right out of my hair.

I'm tired of looking like my husband's mother. He doesn't have gray. But I've been getting gray since I was 23. My son started getting gray at 16, it runs in my side of the family. Trouble being, I can't get coverage of the gray, and if it does cover, it washes out very easily. Is there a trick to getting color to stay? Is there a better kind of color for people like me? Or am I stuck with it? I would appriciate your help. Thanks.
