As the header says I am after any help anyone can give me on how to I get my 6year old to eat meat? What has happened my daughter used to eat anything that was put in front of her then one day my husband went fishing and then came home and went out the back with his catch to clean it. My daughter went out as well and was horrified to see what her father had to do in order for us to eat it. Since then she won't eat fish. Then at school they are learning where food comes from and to my amazement they have been told that beef is from a cow and so on. She used to eat chicken and now won't eat meat at all. She only weighs 20kg max. and my concern is if she doesn't eat meat then she will become sick due to low iron intake. Also if someone knows of a vegetarian what do they eat for there iron intake?

We don't eat of meat either. We often go week without. You should embrace her different diet and learn how to cook food that is balanced that the whole family will enjoy. There are plenty of vegetarian foods out there that are full of iron. If you are really worried, give her a multiviatmin.

So you know, I am sure you checked for this, not all kids multi-vitamins have iron in them. I was really surprised. I ended up buying the Wal0-Mart brand chewable for my son as it was the only chewable with iron.

Thanks for responding and yes I have put her onto a multivitamin as this has been a problem for quiet some time now.

Although mine wasn't that bad, she sure was picky! Till age 2 she'd eat anything set in front of her! Once 2 she got really picky. Now her daughter is really picky too! Maybe try to tell her that "to eat" is why the animals are here -God gave them to us for that reason. or something to that nature, based on what your religious beliefs are. It is certainly a hard thing to explain, could be she'll grow out of it or after seeing her friends all eating meat, she'll eventually start back up. My GD at 7 and really picky - she liked chicken nuggest but only if from fast food. Well, it came out that McDonalds chicken nuggets were something like 75% fish products! I forget the exacts but it was all over the news! She hates fish (well, never tried it but of course says she hates it!) and she heard that and although knowing she was no eating mostly fish, she will still eat them. Yes, she will ask for another "brand" but if that is what shei s given, she has no trouble eating them and then makes fun about it! "I'm eating fish, are you happy?" kind of thing! Then last year, (her absolute love is dolphins and whales) and she goes to Sea World oftena nd feedss the dolphins things. Well, I make my own chicken nuggets for her and she loves them - even when she sees the rare chicken and sees me fry it up. Well, last year it was really odd, she was playing like she waa a dolphin and if I fed her like I would dolpin (you know, let her jump in the air or whatevera dolphin does!) she'd grab the meat (no matter waht kind it was!) out of my hand and eat it! I had to call it "squid" or something related to dolpin, but she'd eat any meat I gave "dolphin". So maybe make some kind of game out of it for your daughter. Then, it just occured to me (I always try to teach her home ec. things) so I when she asked if the dolphin oculd come play I said I had to make some "squid". She asked if she could help. So I show her how to dredge in the egg, flour and bread crumbs and this little girl had the best time making her own "squid"! i was amazed at how well she did -touching the rare chicken and everything! She ate every single nugget she made! Now, I ask her and she just makes it and eats it without hte dolphin input! So, again, make a game out of it and relate it to something that she loves. Or If she has an animal, maybe tell her - if kitty doesn't eat her meat she will get really weak and could get hurt... same could happen to you as you need the iron and protein in meat..... Good luck to you. Let me know the out come - sure would probably be alot of help to many with this same dilema!

She was watching a documentary the other day and it was on Lion's and crocodiles and I used that to try and explain to her that if they don't hunt and eat other animals they will die. That's the same for us if we don't eat other animals than we will get very sick and then end up in hospital. I have even said to her there's a purpose for everything that is on this earth and for some of them, that is for us to eat them so we will grow and be strong and be healthy. Thankyou for responding.

I bet she is at least thinking about it! I can see those wheels rolling my my GD's head on stuff like this. You might not notice a difference right away, but often it just takes time for them to think it through and figure it all out on their own terms. Hope you see a difference!
