Do you believe everything that is preached in your church....

or do you verify what is taught with your Bible? I'll have to admit that I'm pretty lazy when it comes to verifying what my Pastor teaches and I'm going to change that with the next church service. I am not saying that we shouldn't trust our religious leaders, but that people do make mistakes. So, how about you? Do you test what your religious leader teaches against the Bible?

I'm not really a church-goer, though I'm a born again Christian. I prefer to read the Bible, follow what is written there and live they way God wants us to be. I don't really buy listening to preachers, priests or pastors, every little information concerning about the Bible could be misinterpreted by even a slight mistake in suing such words. I think you do have the right to correct what you felt was wrong, let's all just hope that your pastor would also listen to that and admit it's mistake..

That's good raijiin. Do you consult any outside books to help with understanding the Bible? Or do you rely on the Bible to interpret itself? I'll read other books by Christian authors who do a study on a particular book of the Bible. I think they can be helpful but still need to be tested against the word of God. I like to use the Inductive Bible Study method by Kay Arthur.

I try to look for some explanation about it on other books, sometimes such words are too deep and I seek consultation on other people and books related to Christianity as well.

Jeremy and I talk about this often. Thats what makes it harder for Jeremy to want to go to church because he doesn't know who to believe. and he doesnt know if someone is preaching something and then another person with the same religion* preaches a different thing, so what do we believe? We have to figure that out I think... By reading the bible and studying it ourselves. Someone said (i dont think they were religious) that what if our religion is wrong, which one out of the hundreds of different ones were right? (sorry if the words are screwed up. im having a hard time concentrating.)

I believe everything that is preached in our church because we all have the Bible open and he reads the chapters and verses before the sermon. Then during the sermon, if he emphasizes a certain point by quoting a verse, we are supposed to look it up and sometimes if there is a different translation that might be more authentic or gives a better point, he will say, "that in the King James version, Paul uses 'carnally minded' etc. And some of the congregation is writing on notepads so they can go home and study. So I believe what I hear because I am checking it up in the Bible during the sermon and our pastors and reverends always preach from the Bible and make sure that we have our Bibles open most of the time during the Sermon.

Of course I believe in everything my pastor says........just kidding. I actually listen to what he says and do think about if it is correct. I also think, when the pastor is preaching is it for making us feel good or is he trying to clarify what the bible is saying to us.
