p.a.d.= peripheral artery disease. It generally means there is a blockage of a peripheral artery. such as in the leg. This artery leads off from the femoral artery (the major artery in the thigh.) It continues below the knee and branches off where it carries blood to the muscles in the calf and foot. There is some evidence that people with p.a.d. have blood cells that are prone to forming clots. This can result in blood clots which can cause strokes or heart attacks. It should be taken care of A.S.A.P. by a physician to prevent further damages.
