Hi everyone This is a long shot I know but anyway I know, but I thought I would put this question out there to you great mylotters and see what happens,I have recently started researching my family tree I have found out that my grandfather and great uncle on my mothers side, were well known jazz musicians originally from Trinidad, but who played great jazz music all over the world back in the 1920- 1950s,they settled in the UK after the first world war..not sure about the exact date. They were the Blake brothers Cyril and George. I have found out they owned at least one club in UK called the jigs club. I have found out that my great uncle Cyril Blake cut a live jazz track at the jigs club in 1942.And my Grandfather George 'Happy' Blake also had a band which was called 'Happy Blake and his boys' but I have not been able to find any records that my grandfather made with his band. I also have found out that Cyril Blake was featured in the short cabaret musical 'At the Havana'(1940) Does any mylotters know if it is possible to get a copy of this film or does anyone know who else was in this film...long shot I know.. There were many great jazz musicians here in the uk from the 1920s onwards, that many people know nothing about,I have only just recently started researching my family history, and I think it's so sad that so many great musicians have been forgotten. I would like to write a book about all these great guys and girls of the real jazz era,(thats just my opinion of course) and if there are any mylotters out there who know anything about the Blake brothers,Lauderic Caton,The deniz brothers,Claire deniz,Yorke de Souza,Bruce Vanderpoye,Robert Mumford Taylor,Louis Stephenson or any other great jazz musicians of that period I would love to hear from you. My great uncle also was a calypsonian and cut records with another great calypsonian called The mighty sparrow(I think)Does any mylotter have any info on this.. I really know nothing about my grandfather and great uncles life back when they were young in Trinidad. Any ideas how I could find out about their early life in Trinidad. There is no one here to ask and I would really love to know more about them when they were young. Well if you have managed to get to the bottom of this thank you,and have a great day.
