Ok, so this is a pretty controversial topic in the church and especially on Christian college campuses(a matter of which I know from personal experience). What are your views on Pervasive or Crude language in todays society? Is it morally wrong or just against the rules of proper etiquette? I myself will agree that crude language or swearing is generally not considered polite or intellectual conversation, but that doesn't make it wrong. I am a Christian and personally believe that swearing in and of itself is morally fine. Honestly, in my opinion, words are just words. Now, I do know that the Bible says that no crass or crude words should come from your mouth, but up until recent definitions of these "swear words" they were all used in a literal and acceptable context. The Bible itself(KJV for those who would refute) uses the terms p**s, b***h,b*****d,a**,and Hell(obviously)[edited since this is a public venue]I also am aware of the scriptures that warn not to be a stumbling block for your brother, so I of course know which friends and contexts such language is appropriate in. Now what are your thoughts and/or beliefs?

I think that anything that is said when you are angry is considered crude and crass words. It's not whether someone determined they are a 'swear word' or not, but in what context they are used. I agree that use of such language is not considered polite or intellectual, but I don't think that makes them wrong either. Who decided what was a swear word anyways?

Exactly, that was one thing I forgot to mention was the attitude with which a word is used. Anything from Doppelganger to Sassafrass is just a substitute for a "swear word" if it is said with the same angry or malicious intent. I don't really know who decided what "swear words" were going to be.

I have to agree with both of you. Words are just words, its how it is used that is when its wrong. Words used in anger or that offends someone is what I believe they talk about in the bible. So if you think the word you say will offend someone then you would need to use tack when speaking.
