I just heard on the news that a home depot worker that stopped and captured a thief has been fired for breaking company rules. He has filed a million dollar lawsuit to get his job back. I hope he wins the lawsuit! He says he stopped the guy to protect the workers and customers around him. Home Depot's company policy is to give the thief what he wants and to not antagonize him. Hoping that he will go away and not hurt anyone. What a load of crap! It is another case of the criminal having more rights than the victims. In my store. I made the front of my counter out of 1/8" wood. A double barrel shotgun sits behind it. If a robber comes in I WILL cut him in half! What do you think? Should we cower behind the counter and pray don't hurt me? Should people NOT have the right to protect themselves or people around them? Or even take it one step further and try to capture the criminal (if so inclined) after the crime if the criminal is still within reach? I think Home Depots ONLY reason for firing him and having this company policy is to protect themselves from lawsuits from the criminals. I can see where it just comes down to money. Another thought is. What if the criminal had shot or stabbed someone anyway? Would the employee still had to just stand there and watch?
